Harold Varner III and Patrick Reed both represent the 4 Aces team on LIV Golf, captained by Dustin Johnson.
While Varner won on LIV Golf in 2023, Reed had to wait until June of this year before he finally broke through on the Saudi-backed circuit, with his victory in Dallas, Texas, at Maridoe Golf Club.
Reed could have been a big asset to the US Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black this year, but Keegan Bradley was not bold enough to give the 35-year-old a captain’s pick.
Jack Nicklaus is a big fan of LIV Golf star Reed, as is Gary Player.
Unfortunately for Reed though, he never seems to be given fair and balanced coverage by the golfing media.

So with that in mind, it’s fascinating to get an insight into what he is really like from those who know him best.
Harold Varner III says how he really feels about Patrick Reed
Reed showed big improvements on LIV Golf in 2025 and he ended up finishing seventh in the season-long standings.
Do you think golfers should receive a free drop from divots in the fairway?
His quality is not up for debate. However, he has been somewhat of a divisive character in the professional game since he turned pro.
When speaking during a LIV Golf production titled ‘The Most Misunderstood Man in Golf’, Varner III revealed how he really feels about Reed.
He said: “He is exactly what fans think. He grinds. He works a lot. He is probably the hardest worker in this league. He does a lot of stuff that I wouldn’t do. I look up to him in that aspect, that he does a lot to get in the right spot.“
Varner clearly spends a lot of time with Reed, so his opinion of the 2018 Masters champion should be taken at face value.
Patrick Reed’s 2025 LIV Golf results
Reed was incredibly consistent throughout the 2025 season.
Here is how his results look this year:
| Achievements | Reed’s totals |
| Events played | 13 |
| Wins | 1 |
| Top-5s | 2 |
| Top-10s | 6 |
| Top-25s | 11 |
It’s also worth noting that he recorded a third place finish at The Masters and a top-25 at the US Open this year as well.
Reed will be hoping to improve even further still on LIV in 2026 and, who knows, perhaps win a major again also.
Regardless of how Reed performs, though, perhaps it is time that he is given more of a chance by golf fans and journalists alike.
