Jon Rahm made his LIV Golf debut this weekend and it was a successful start overall for the Masters champion.

Rahm’s move over to LIV has been one of the big golfing stories around and he teed off over in Mexico this weekend to kick off the new season.

In the end, Rahm’s Legion XIII team came out on top on in the team competition as Tyrell Hatton also got off to a good start as part of the breakaway tour.

Of course, LIV’s weekend was made all the better by what was going on at Pebble Beach on the PGA Tour, as more eyes shifted towards the finale in Mexico with LIV.

However, while Rahm might have enjoyed success in winning the team event, the Spaniard admitted he’d not even been able to see the team scoreboard until he got to the 12th hole.

Jon Rahm shares what surprised him during first ever LIV weekend

Speaking on the Winner’s Interview on the official LIV YouTube channel, Rahm admitted that he loves to see the scoreboard but on this occasion, didn’t get to see one until the 12th.

“I look at every leader board I can. I like to know where I stand. I like to know the score. There is always information on the leader board that can motivate me. Unfortunately I never saw the team score until 12, that was the first time I saw it and it was a great surprise to be honest. At that point I was even par and struggling throughout the day and seeing that we were 21 under was a very motivating factor so it helped me make a clutch four footer and then go on that birdie streak,” Rahm said.

LIV makes a good start to 2024

While we’re no huge fans of the LIV product in general just yet, this weekend seemed to mark a bit of a turning point for the tour compared to previous years.

We had Rahm’s team winning the opening event as a team and then not one golf fan will deny the brilliance of Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia wasn’t riveting viewing either.

Of course, there’s so much LIV can do to improve the product and this from Rahm is just one thing they might want to sort out for the players on the actual courses.

But overall, LIV will see this weekend as a major positive and they’ll hope to kick on and attract even more eyes to the game in the coming weeks and months.
