With 2024 coming to a close, we’re once again ending a year of golf where Rory McIlroy has failed to add to his majors tally.
McIlroy is stuck on four and has been for over a decade now as number five continues to evade him.
The Northern Irishman could and should have won the US Open in 2024 but saw Bryson DeChambeau take the crown in agonising fashion.
However, with McIlroy showing good form in the season-ending tournament out in Dubai and showing quality in The Showdown alongside Scottie Scheffler, there’s hopes building already that 2025 could be McIlroy’s year.
Of course, winning the Masters is top of his list as he searches for the career grand slam. But right now, McIlroy and his supporters would no doubt take any major win simply to get the monkey off his back.
And over on social media, golf fans have been debating just what McIlroy might win in 2025 when it comes to those majors.

Golf fans predict how many majors Rory McIlroy will win in 2025
After the question was posed by Golf Monthly on how many majors McIlroy could take in 2025, fans lapped up the invite to have their say.
Indeed, it’s safe to say that the room is very much split when it comes to McIlroy, with differing suggestions on how successful he’ll be.
One golf fan suggested that the answer is zero, unless something very drastic happened to Scottie Scheffler!
While another fan also mentioned Scheffler, albeit this time in terms of putting.
Another fan, @saucyfeathers, had a more negative outlook, suggesting McIlroy would blow his chances again.
“Zero. Dude hasn’t won one in over a decade now I think? No reason to think he’d start now. Easily one of the better players but just falls short. Probably have another Rory major where he shoots the lights out of the course on Saturday and fades on Sunday losing to someone else.”
While @StueFC44 also went down the zero line.
“Zero, and I take absolutely no pleasure in saying this.”
Continuing the theme, @par1ayprincess suggested that McIlroy’s recent history will prevent him from being successful.
“Sadly I think zero. Too much pressure at Augusta, all the talk at Quail Hollow will be about him, and the same at Portrush. There’s too much scar tissue these days”
Rory McIlroy is too good to not win another major
At 35, Rory McIlroy is entering the period of his career where he needs to be winning majors sooner rather than later.
Sure, golfers win into their 40s and sometimes beyond but he’s effectively in his prime years now and his experience and fitness should be counting for a lot.
In simple terms, Rory McIlroy is too good to never win another major. However, golf doesn’t always work like that and with so many good players in the game now, there’s a very realistic chance McIlroy does indeed fail to win again.
We’ve been speaking about it for so long now that the pressure just gets more intense. 2025, then, simply has to be the year for Rory.
