Scottie Scheffler might be one the nicest and calmest guys out on the PGA Tour but even the world number one isn’t immune to criticism from sections of the golf world it seems.

Scheffler is currently in action at the RBC Heritage as he seeks a first win of the season and despite going under par for both rounds so far, he is four off the leader, Justin Thomas.

For Scheffler, the pressure of trying to emulate last season’s brilliant form does seem to be there and in 2025, it is Rory McIlroy who is picking up the baton.

Of course, Scheffler is still in contention at Harbour Town and a strong third round could see him move further up the leaderboard.

However, after Scheffler snapped back at reporters for asking a ‘dumb question’ after round one, there were more signs of frustration in round two.

And this time, Scheffler has been called out by golf fans for that frustration.

Golf fans unhappy with Scottie Scheffler as he shows petulance in round two of the RBC Heritage

While we are so used to seeing Scottie Scheffler in control of his game and emotions, things did get the better of him on the 8th hole at Harbour Town.

After hitting an errant second shot on the par four, Scheffler was caught by the cameras showing his frustration as he hammered his club aggressively into the turf.

It was very un-Scheffler like and over on social media, the world number one came in for criticism.

One fan lamented Scheffler, calling for him to ‘grow up’.

“This is getting old. Grow tf up and be better. You have kids that look up to you and now they think it’s okay to slam a club when they hit a bad shot.”

While another fan suggested Scheffler show more restraint given he wasn’t playing too badly.

“What a wuss, guy is -8 and acting like a guy who’s even or over par. Have more composure”

That theme continued as well, as one fan suggested an interesting theory linked to Scheffler’s brilliant 2024 season.

“Really think Scottie bought in to his own hype from last year and is getting testy now that he isn’t winning every single tournament he plays in.”

While another claimed these sorts of outburst will stop him ever being ‘elite’.

“Scottie’s attitude will keep him from being elite. His outbursts are getting more frequent.”

As for Scheffler’s popularity, another viewer used their moment to claim they’re simply not a fan of him.

“Dude is so whiney. I’m not a fan”

While finally, another fan had sympathy for the caddie as Scheffler struggled to find his best.

“The worst part about being a caddie, is the worse your guy plays, the less you make, and the worse he plays, the more p—ness you have to deal with”

Scottie Scheffler not the first to lose his cool in 2025

Golf is a hard sport. Nobody is denying that and nobody is denying that players like Scottie Scheffler are just human and will have moments like this.

However, it is becoming more common place.

Sahith Theegala lost it at the Valspar recently, while Karl Vilips has had a big outburst this season, and Collin Morikawa was so annoyed after the Arnold Palmer he refused media duties.

The Valspar was also the course where Patton Kizzire kicked his putter across the green and while Scheffler’s moment of annoyance he is not on that level, it is another example.

Nevertheless, in typical Scheffler fashion, he made birdie on the next hole before making par on every single hole on the back nine.
