LIV Golf Chicago is underway as Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann battle out for the breakaway league’s Individual Championship.
Rahm believes he must win to prevent the Chilean from pipping him at Bolingbrook Golf Club. Rahm loves the course in downtown Chicago, and will be confident of ending his debut season on a high.
The Spaniard will earn $18 million if he wins the Individual Championship and is already guaranteed $8 million for finishing in the top two.
However, there’s also another prize on offer to Niemann and Rahm.
Golf fans react to LIV Golf’s ‘Champion Ring’

LIV Golf unveiled its Individual Champion Ring ahead of the Chicago event. The ring includes a hidden ball marker and a QR code of the winning moment.
Unfortunately, golf fans are less than impressed with the winning prize.
“Is there anything more worthless,” wrote one fan. “The humiliation of even having this, not to mention wearing it.”
While another said, “It just keeps getting more embarrassing.” This fan sarcastically added, “Stay classy, LIV golf.”
“As ugly as it gets,” said another. A fellow fan remarked, “Another cringey corny L.”
Furthermore, this fan claimed LIV is trying to copy the NFL. “So LIV copying NFL now,” they wrote. Finally, this fan kept their assessment straight to the point.
“That’s about as tacky as you would have predicted,” they said.
Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann won’t be wearing the LIV Golf ring
It’s hard to envisage Rahm or Niemann donning the ring and using the ball marker in future rounds. The prize looks tacky and is ill-thought-out, particularly considering it’s already been used in other sports.
With ideas such as this, LIV invite criticism. There was a chance to offer something unique and classy, but the breakaway tour now fronts yet more ridicule.
Fans are right to criticize the ring. It almost detracts from the winner’s achievement. A tacky piece of metal that has already been criticized will hardly excite Rahm or Niemann come Sunday afternoon.
