Golf can be a funny old game at times and while some of the big names in the sport aren’t playing much right now, the DP World Tour still threw up some incredible drama this weekend.
With the Andalucia Masters taking place this weekend, all eyes were on the event to see if Spanish superstar and LIV Golf player Jon Rahm would take the spoils on home turf.
In the end, Rahm was unable to close the gap enough to be in contention to win as he finished four shots behind eventual winner, Julian Guerrier.
However, while the focus might have been on Rahm and a few other select names, few could predict what was to come from Guerrier and another Spaniard, Jorge Campillo.

With the duo tied for the lead, things went to a playoff to decide the winner.
But in a remarkable turn of events, the playoff went on for nine long holes before eventually, Guerrier nailed a putt from just off the green to decide the match and finally win out.
For Guerrier, it was a maiden win in his 230th start and the emotional scenes were a fitting end to a ding-dong battle.
And over on social media platform X, golf fans couldn’t quite believe what they’d seen as they reacted to the nine-hole playoff.
Golf fans left stunned as DP World Tour event goes to nine playoff holes
As with anything in the world of golf that catches the eye, golf fans were all over this moment.
And it’s safe to say that in the main, people were thoroughly entertained – if not a bit exhausted – by the goings on.
One fan praised Guerrier for his passion, admitting it was nice to see a player care so much about the win.
While another golf fan admitted to the event being a bit draining on the mind!
Another golf fan, @mitu_68, claimed the action was even stopping them from tuning into some Premier League football action.
‘It’s crazy- need to change to the match starting at Anfield’
While another fan, @Bobebopp suggested the format showed that a change in system is actually needed.
“If a playoff is done on par 4’s or 3’s….if the first 3 holes are tied…should go to a par 5 to create some risk/reward to move the needle a bit more”
@Harsey66 suggested a similar route be taken.
‘Just about…move the tees up or cut some new holes…please’
While another account, @Golfbrief harked back to a comment from Ben Hogan in congratulating Guerrier on his win.
‘Great maiden victory on the #DPWorldTour by Julien #Guerrier. The 9 hole playoff shows the importance of ‘minimising mistakes’, as #BenHogan said “Golf is a game of minimising your mistakes”.

In the end, the Andalucia Masters very much showed that despite all the LIV and PGA talk, that the DP World Tour still has a part to play in golf.
More of the same in a few of the signature events to finish the year would do just nicely!
