The emergence of Scottie Scheffler in the last two years has prompted plenty of debate and comparison talk when it comes to Tiger Woods.

Such has been Scheffler’s dominance on the PGA Tour that we’ve had almost weekly conversations about Scheffler reaching a level not seen since Tiger Woods in the 2000s.

Of course, Scheffler has a long way to go in terms of tournament and major wins to get anywhere near Woods, albeit he is playing every bit as good as Tiger did at times in his pomp.

We’ve seen Adam Scott admit that the comparisons between Scheffler and Woods are fair, while Smylie Kaufmann has pointed out how Scheffler’s ability to close off a tournament is Woods-esque as well.

On the flipside, Claude Harmon has suggested Scheffler need to do it for far longer if he’s to ever be truly considered as Tiger’s equal.

Regardless, we’ve not seen a player like this in golf for some time.

And over on social media platform X, Golf Digest used Scheffler’s brilliance to ask the question of if Scheffler is the best we’ve seen since Tiger?

Naturally, there was an eclectic mix of responses from the golfing public.

Golf fans debate if Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer since Tiger Woods

With this sort of open-ended question, you’re always going to get a range of replies.

And while there’s some who go along with Scottie being the man, some have their own picks when it comes to the best since Tiger.

One fan account suggested there are actually a number of active players still ahead of Scheffler.

While another fan suggested Brooks Koepka be in the conversation.

Away from Koepka, one fan made a strong case for Rory McIlroy due to his longevity, with @Paul21210383 saying the following:

“No!!!!! Rory is. Scheffler has had a few great seasons. Rory’ had nearly 20. If Scheffler continues like this for the next few years then yes but not now”

While @brett_mattingley also backed up the selection of Rory.

“Rory McIlroy won 4 majors by the age of 25 and two of them were by 8 shots. While Scottie looks well on his way, I still believe Rory at his peak was as unbeatable as Scottie looks now.”

Of course, Scheffler is a popular guy himself, and @CDubKY3 backed the American as the main man.

“He’s not the most accomplished player since Tiger Woods’ prime but he’s definitely played the best golf we’ve seen since TW.”

While @johnacquilano suggested that while Scheffler is great, consistency is now key.

“He absolutely had an amazing year but this needs to continue every single ye”ar for many many years where every time he enters a tournament he is the ultimate favorite”

It seems, then, that this is a debate that is wide open and there are a few out there across LIV and the PGA Tour who can make a claim.

However, if Scheffler has a similar 2025 to this year and we ask this same question again in 12 months, there could well be even more support for the world number one.
