Phil Mickelson is looking to win the seventh major championship of his career at The PGA Championship this week.

Mickelson has already won two PGA Championships – at Baltusrol in 2005 and then at Kiawah Island in 2021.

Unfortunately for the 54-year-old, he has made more headlines off the course than he has on it over the past few years.

Back in March, Phil Mickelson predicted that Scottie Scheffler wouldn’t win before the Ryder Cup in September.

He also raised some eyebrows with his recent comments on LIV Golf.

Mickelson suggested that he prefers the LIV format to the Ryder Cup in a way.

The three-time Masters champion certainly doesn’t do things by the book.

And some fans of Mickelson are now concerned about something he has done heading into Quail Hollow.

Mickelson clearly isn’t as good as he used to be, and is certainly nowhere near as consistent.

However, he does still have the game to challenge on the odd occasion, and he proved that back at Kiawah Island four years ago.

Can he roll back the years yet again this week in North Carolina?

Well, some fans of Mickelson are concerned about him heading into the tournament.

Phil didn’t arrive on the property at Quail Hollow until 7pm on Wednesday night.

That’s unheard of in the modern game really, and the move from the 54-year-old has got his fans questioning whether he still has the motivation needed to succeed.

One golf fan said, Hate to say it but you can bet he will MC this week. Effort is not there. How can you not play some holes?

Whilst another isn’t holding out much hope for Phil, Phil will be 8 shots from the cut line come Friday.

A third fan said, Yikes, wonder if he’s a little sick or something.

Meanwhile, a fourth follower of Mickelson said, He played it last week I heard but yep I think he’s just not motivated anymore.

Then a fifth golf fan said, Just doesn’t appear to be focused. X’ing about other topics during LIV tournaments.

Before a sixth fan highlighted that this preparation from Mickelson simply isn’t normal, Is he injured or going to withdraw? This doesn’t seem normal.

Arriving that late for a major championship does seem rather bizarre from Mickelson. However, it’s not unprecedented from the six-time major winner.

How Phil Mickelson prepared for The Masters

Interestingly, Mickelson was the last player to arrive at Augusta National last month.

However, he still turned up much earlier than he did this time around at Quail Hollow.

The 45-time PGA Tour winner arrived at Augusta around 5pm on Tuesday night – a full 26 hours earlier than his arrival time at Quail Hollow.

That said, Mickelson could turn up Augusta an hour before his tee time and still know the ins and outs of the course.

The same can’t be said for his knowledge of Quail Hollow. I can’t help but feel arriving so late to the golf course this week will end up proving to be a bad move from him.
