Jordan Spieth has experienced an incredibly difficult 2025 season on the PGA Tour.
In fact, Spieth has really struggled for three years on the PGA Tour now, since his last win at the RBC Heritage in 2022.
Spieth looked much like his old self on day one at the Wyndham Championship, but he’s clearly still a long way from his best.
The 32-year-old has been a shadow of his former self over the past few years, but that hasn’t dampened his enthusiasm for the game.
Spieth is still hopeful of making the Ryder Cup team in September, and he definitely still has the hunger needed to improve.
It’s worth noting that Spieth is the father of three young children now, so his priorities will undoubtedly have changed.
But does the American truly believe deep down he will ever return to the player he once was?
Golf fans split after what Jordan Spieth said about his golf game
Spieth spoke to reporters after his first round at the Wyndham Championship on Thursday.
And he made a really bold prediction about what he thinks might happen in 2026.

Spieth said: “I’d like to finish strong this year, but next year is going to be a really good year for me, I can feel it. It’s all coming along, I’ll be healthy and just structurally, putting, the mechanics are all getting really, really close. One good off-season should get me nailed down to where I can be as good as I’ve been, and that’s my goal.“
However, golf fans seem to be completely split in their reactions to the 32-year-old’s remarks.
One fan reacted positively to Spieth’s comments by saying: “It’s time for his resurgence, I’m all in. See you at Augusta.“
While another fan suggested it is certainly possible that Spieth will get back to his best: “It begins with a belief followed by a mindset. He has both.“
Then a third fan highlighted just how badly the PGA Tour needs a Spieth resurgence: “Golf needs him so bad.“
Meanwhile, a fourth fan backed the 32-year-old to come good: “We miss you Jordan. Go get it. Golf is better when you’re succeeding.“
However, some fans were slightly more cynical after hearing the three-time major champion’s comments.
One fan said: “I hope so but I just think the competition is too fierce now.“
While another golf fan urged caution: “I would love to see it but until that time comes I’m not buying it…“
Then one fan suggested Spieth has a lot of hard work to do if he is to rediscover his best stuff: “We’ll see and I’ll be rooting for him but he has to have a lot of mental scar tissue, injuries, corporate commitments and a family. I can’t remember the last time I saw him look confident or settled like when he dominated for a short while.“
Before another golf fan suggested that Spieth may have other priorities now: “Statistically, speaking, marriage, kids wife when are you gonna be home? Doesn’t usually equate to winning.“
Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour stats: 2024 vs 2025
Spieth is currently sitting in 50th spot in the FedEx Cup standings.
So 2025 clearly hasn’t been the year he would have wanted, so far at least.
However, his stats prove that he has made some big improvements with his game this year.
| Stats | Spieth’s 2024 rank | Spieth’s 2025 rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 15th | 33rd |
| Strokes gained approach | 138th | 52nd |
| Strokes gained around the greens | 108th | 20th |
| Strokes gained scrambling | 173rd | 76th |
| Strokes gained putting | 101st | 79th |
| Strokes gained total | 80th | 16th |
It’s quite remarkable to see just how much better Spieth has got this year compared to last season in every single category aside from driving.
If he continues to make marginal gains, he will undoubtedly win again soon.
However, it’s highly doubtful that Spieth will ever return to the levels he showed in 2015.
