Rory McIlroy had a US Open to forget overall, having struggled to deal with the conditions at Oakmont Country Club.
McIlroy enjoyed a record-breaking final round at the US Open, in which the Northern Irishman carded a three-under 67.
That followed rounds of 74, 72 and 74 as McIlroy narrowly made the cut at Oakmont Country Club, which was set at seven-over.
Paul McGinley thinks McIlroy’s Masters win has burdened him, despite the 36-year-old completing the career grand slam at Augusta National.
He triumphed at The Masters earlier this year, adding to his wins from the US Open, The Open Championship and two from the PGA Championship.

Golf fans cannot believe what Oakmont spectators did in Rory McIlroy’s final US Open round
He certainly impressed on Sunday at Oakmont, but also caused quite a stir among golf fans watching the event when he hit a shot over spectators on the fourth hole.
Reacting to the incident, one golf fan wrote on X: “That’s insane,” with another simply commenting: “Wow.”
A second said: “Too much trust for no reason… I don’t care how many majors you won, I’m not taking that risk.”
A third golf fan in disbelief noted: “They want a story. Got hit by Rory’s ball will be a great story,” with a fourth saying: “They are willing to take a hit just to watch him play the ball!”
A fifth then referenced McIlroy’s hurling of a club in round two, writing of the spectators: “They’re more likely to get hit with a club than the ball…”
Rory McIlroy plays out uncharacteristic US Open on and off the course at Oakmont
McIlroy’s emotions boiled over time and again during his week at Oakmont, which is rare to see from the five-time major champion.
He is usually a largely composed figure on the course, with things having gone his way more often than not in recent times.

His win at The Masters represented his third title of the PGA Tour season, following his successes at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship.
But he has cut a somewhat troubled figure since that unforgettable week at The Masters, even with that heavy burden having been lifted.
Media snubs have been a regular occurrence, while fans witnessed a club throw and the smashing of a tee box at Oakmont alone.
Perhaps there is more going on with the five-time major champion than meets the eye, but hopefully his best golf and approachable manner return sooner rather than later.
