Gary Woodland’s story in the last few years has been one of the more heart-warming tales in golf and he’s set to tee it up at this week’s PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

Woodland has had to undergo extensive treatment to cure a brain lesion and he returned to the PGA Tour last year to plenty of praise.

Ahead of the PGA Championship this week, Woodland has been doing his rounds with the media where he can and as usual, he seems in a jovial mood.

Deep down, Woodland appreciates his career more than ever thanks to the problems he’s faced, meaning he’s always good for a fun interview.

And speaking to golf journalist Dan Rappaport, Woodland has named both his favourite course and the one mulligan he’d take in his career.

Rappaport is often out on the course with players and does quick-fire, fun interviews to try and tap into a golfer’s more relaxed side.

Speaking to Gary Woodland, Rappaport asked his usual questions and got onto the one he asks everyone, ‘if you could have a mulligan for one shot in your career, which would it be’.

And for Woodland, it involves a time when Scottie Scheffler managed to beat him by one.

“I’m going to say I was leading by one at Bay Hill (2022) on the 71st hole and I plugged it in the bunker and lost to Scottie by one. Yeah, I’d hit that over the green and get up and down and win by one,” Woodland admitted.

Finally, going onto his favourite golf course in the world, Woodland then admitted it is indeed this week’s PGA Championship venue, Quail Hollow.

“I love Quail,” Woodland said.

Gary Woodland’s 2025 stats ahead of the PGA Championship

Just seeing Gary Woodland back out playing is a good bonus for any golf fan but we also must remember this is a major winning golfer who will want to win.

So far, he’s yet to taste success since his return but there have been some signs in 2025 that Woodland’s game is coming together.

There might be an element of inconsistency to Woodland’s results, but he started the season with three consecutive top 25s, before missing the next three cuts.

However, he finished T2 at the Texas Children’s Open in March, and finished inside the top 35 at last week’s Truist Championship.

Woodland might not come out on top at Quail Hollow but on a golf course he clearly likes and with conditions tough for everyone, he might just surprise a few.
