Tiger Woods might be out for the rest of 2025 with injury but Fred Couples has revealed that the 82-time PGA Tour winner is not resting on his laurels.

Woods has suffered a brutal season ending achilles tendon injury in a bitter blow for both the PGA Tour and the TGL.

Indeed, while suggestions are out there saying Woods might return sooner, the over-arching expectancy is that he misses all of 2025 before looking to make some sort of comeback in 2026.

Of course, one man who knows Woods well is former Masters winner, Fred Couples.

And Couples has now revealed an interaction with Woods after his injury was confirmed.

Fred Couples confirms Tiger Woods’ mind-set after latest injury setback

Speaking ahead of the HOAG Championship this weekend, Couples was asked about speaking to Tiger and if he’d heard from him since the injury.

And as expected, Couples has indeed been in touch with the 15-time major winner.

“I texted him as soon as it happened. He got back to me and I texted him on a couple of other things, about TGL, about his daughter, just won the soccer state thing. That was before he hurt himself, he was on cloud 20 and he was amazing.

“He’s in great spirits for a ruptured achilles he really is. He’ll be fine. It’s such a bummer because people think when is going to play? He was scheduled to play a few events, not a tonne, but a few events and you know, his Mother passing away, would slow anyone down.

“But he’s my man and texting him is a lot of fun.”

Why Tiger Woods is so close to Fred Couples

A lot of PGA Tour players are good friends but the relationship between Couples and Woods is one of the more wider known stories on TOUR.

Both players have a lot of time for each other and have been more than complimentary over the years about each other as golfers and individuals.

For Tiger Woods, though, it’s more than that and he’s revealed in the past just how he views Couples.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have him as basically my dad on Tour,” Woods said of Couples previously.

“Freddie all the sudden became my buddy on Tour when I first came out, took me under his wing. The ’97 Ryder Cup was it. And then like every year forward, I always played every practice round at Augusta with either [Mark] O’Meara or Fred. And then it’s been Fred pretty much I think the last 15 years.”

With Woods now having lost both his mother and father, one would assume the bond with Couples is now more important than ever.

Certainly, it would be a perfect scenario to see the pair tee it up at least one more time in the same group at Augusta.
