Sam Burns has made it very clear that he is seriously pumped up for the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black next month.
Burns received one of Keegan Bradley‘s six Ryder Cup captain’s picks on Wednesday
Many fans and journalists alike expected Bradley to name himself on his own Ryder Cup team instead of Burns, but the 39-year-old showed real class in the end by giving up the chance to play at Bethpage Black.
Burns has experienced somewhat of a challenging season on the PGA Tour in 2025.
The 29-year-old from Shreveport, Louisiana, has failed to win so far this year and has really struggled with his approach play and his driving.
After the Tour Championship, Burns insisted that he would support Ryder Cup captain Bradley all the way, even if he didn’t receive a captain’s pick.
However, he received good news from Bradley in the end, and now he simply cannot wait to get started at Bethpage.
Sam Burns posts message after Keegan Bradley selected him for the Ryder Cup
Burns has played on one Ryder Cup team before, in Rome in 2023. He has also represented the USA at the Presidents Cup twice, in 2022 and 2024.

He has always displayed unadulterated passion and fervent emotion when he has played with the stars and stripes on his sleeve.
However, his record isn’t the best in team competition. He won one match and lost two in Rome in 2023 and during his two Presidents Cup appearances he has won three matches, lost three and halved three.
The 29-year-old will be hoping to improve upon those numbers next month.
Burns posted a message on his Instagram account, sharing how he’s ready to go to battle against Team Europe next month.
He said: “So fired up to be a part of this team! Ready to go to battle with the boys and Cap.“
Sam Burns’ 2025 PGA Tour stats and why they should concern American fans
Burns was nowhere near his best throughout the 2025 season on the PGA Tour.
And it’s clear to see that he was selected for the US Ryder Cup team by Bradley mainly because of his putting.
| Stats | Burns’ 2025 PGA Tour rank |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 72nd |
| Strokes gained approach | 115th |
| Strokes gained around the green | 76th |
| Strokes gained putting | 1st |
| Strokes gained total | 13th |
Burns’ exceptional putting will obviously be a potent weapon during the Ryder Cup.
However, Bethpage Black is renowned for being a course which demands long and straight drives off the tee.
He ranked 52nd in driving distance and 73rd in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Those driving stats from Burns should be a big concern for American golf fans ahead of the Ryder Cup.
Bradley will be hoping that Burns’ putter is hot at Bethpage next month, otherwise questions will be asked about the 29-year-old’s selection.
