Nelly Korda could be just too far back at the KPMG PGA Championship and the world number one has given an insight into just how tough things are.

Korda is among the best the LPGA has to offer teeing it up at Fields Ranch East but is eight back of the leaders as she goes in search of another win.

The American had a tremendous 2024 where she effectively dominated women’s golf but 2025 hasn’t quite been the same for Korda.

Still, she remains the biggest name in the sport and to see Korda not quite being at the very top of her game shows how hard golf can be.

Indeed, according to Korda, the course at Fields Ranch really is that hard and she’s openly admitted to just how difficult things are.

Nelly Korda says why the Fields Ranch course is just ‘brutal’ at the KPMG PGA Championship

With Nelly Korda eight back of the leaders, there’s minimal chance she gets a win here and her frustrating run of results in 2025 looks set to continue.

Still, it’s always interesting to hear from the best players when it comes to a golf course being tough and Korda revealed to the media yesterday that things are just so, so hard at Fields Ranch.

“Trust me, it’s so brutal out here. The greens are so firm. It’s blowing 30 to 35 miles an hour. It’s messing with your putts. It’s just — you’re just happy to get 18 under your belt on a day like this,” Korda admitted.

“Yeah, it’s just brutal. Like you’re exhausted after these days because it’s such a premium to hit the fairways but you’re starting it so far right. It’s almost like you’re playing a British but you can’t run it up to these greens because if you hit it short of some of these greens it just sucks it straight back.
It’s just very interesting to play in these conditions the past couple days.”

“Yeah, I mean, my caddie and I were talking. We were like, there is just not a hole where like if you make a bogey, okay, this is an opportunity to bounce back. It’s just so hard and demanding in every aspect.
It’s definitely testing you. I thought Erin Hills was a mental test, but jeez, this one is a real mental test.”

Nelly Korda’s 2025 form compared to 2024

It just proves how hard of a game golf is when you look at Nelly Korda now compared to 2024.

Korda won seven times in 2024 and appeared to be an unstoppable force in the game who would go on to break every record going.

However, in 2025, the wins haven’t flowed and Korda has yet to even get off the mark in 2025.

Korda has still made all nine cuts she’s played this season and has four top ten finishes but so far, things have just not clicked in terms of getting a win.

At eight back, that run looks set to continue but it just proves how tough things are when the world’s very best are struggling.
