Eddie Pepperell has shared what he thinks Robert MacIntyre now needs to do to be considered world-class after his maiden PGA Tour victory at the Canadian Open.

The Scot landed a memorable one-shot triumph with his dad on his bag at Hamilton Golf and Country Club.

MacIntyre has since withdrawn from the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village and returned home to Scotland to celebrate with his family.

Next up for the Scot is the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No.2.

Speaking on the ‘Chipping Forecast’, Pepperell has suggested MacIntyre now needs to add consistency to his game to become “world class”.

The 33-year-old explained: “Nothing breeds confidence like winning. I think, to Bob’s credit, he’s very good down the stretch. He’s pretty clutch in those moments.

“I think his criticism of himself, probably rightly, is just the lack of consistency that he’s seeing in his game and that will be the thing he will want to elevate to get his game to be considered truly world class.”

Pepperell also suggested the Scot needs to eradicate “wild” swings with his putter.

He added: “That’s the thing we would all like to see with Bob just push on and contend a bit more regularly. Not having the fluctuation and wild swings with his putting that he seemingly has, and if he can achieve that, then yeah, I think really this is the perfect launch pad.”

The signs have been positive for MacIntyre since his T13 finish at the Myrtle Beach Classic.

A T8 finish at the PGA Championship the following week was clearly a springboard for the Scot before his maiden victory.

But, as Pepperell has highlighted, consistently finishing inside the top 25 will see the 27-year-old considered among the best in the world.

Missed cuts at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, Charles Schwab, The Players, Farmer Insurance, Waste Management and The American Express show that MacIntyre still has a long way to go, regardless of his recent win.

When he returns to action in the U.S. Open, looking to make the cut and continue his good is a must if he wants to be truly be considered an elite player.
