Sky Sports commentator Jamie Spence has revealed which aspect of Robert MacIntyre’s game he is never particularly confident about, after the Scot secured his first PGA Tour win at the RBC Canadian Open at the weekend.
Robert MacIntyre appears to have had moments where he has wondered whether he made the right decision to join the PGA Tour this season, with MacIntyre noting that Rory McIlroy has spoken to him about the homesickness he has felt across the pond.
But those doubts have been put to one side for now, with MacIntyre winning the RBC Canadian Open at the weekend, with the 27-year-old winning by one shot from Ben Griffin.
It was a turbulent final round for MacIntyre who started Sunday four shots clear of the field. However, by the time he had made a bogey on the first, the field had already closed the gap right down.

And while he extended that gap again, there was more drama on the back nine when he found the water off the tee on the 12th. Eventually, he did extremely well to nearly make a par.
Ultimately, MacIntyre was able to get the job done, and many will be wondering how many events he can now win in the coming years.
Speaking on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast, Jamie Spence suggested that he needs to improve off the tee to realise his full potential.

“The only thing is I feel like he’s playing on full throttle a bit, Bob, a lot of times. And off the tee, I’m never that confident either, I feel he’s got a wide in him,” he said.
“Whether that’s from nerves or getting a bit excited, I don’t know, because he can make the game look really easy for three or hours and then suddenly, it went off the planet. He’s got a great touch around the green, he’s got a great soft touch on the greens as well. Putting can be up and down for every player as well. But that’s the great thing about this sport, we just don’t know what his ceiling is.”
Where MacIntyre ranks off the tee on PGA Tour this season
The numbers definitely suggest that MacIntyre has plenty of improvements to make off the tee, with the PGA Tour website showing that he is 147th on tour for driving accuracy this season.
And given that he is 68th on tour right now for driving distance, there is an argument that something needs to change in one of those categories if MacIntyre is going to follow last week’s performance with a number of victories in the near future.
That will matter little to the Scot right now, who will find that plenty of doors will now open after his maiden win on the PGA Tour. But clearly, there is a special player in there if he can figure some things out.
