Whatever happens during the Presidential election in America, Donald Trump can at least reflect on some success on the golf course in 2024, with the 78-year-old apparently winning the Palm Beach Club Championship this year.
Of course, Donald Trump is best known for being the President of the United States. But his passion for golf is also widely known, with Trump owning a number of golf courses across the world.
He has proved that he is a very capable golfer. Trump has claimed that his best ever round is a 66, while Trump’s handicap is said to be around 2.5.
While there is always going to be many who doubt just how good he really is, Trump did show that he can definitely play as he took part in a Break 50 challenge alongside Bryson DeChambeau earlier this year. The pair got agonisingly close to being the first to beat the challenge on DeChambeau’s channel.

And there is no doubting the competitor Trump is, whatever he is getting involved in. So perhaps it is no surprise that he seems to have won his Club Championship at Palm Beach this year.
Remarkably, Trump has told Let’s Go! With Bill Belichick, Maxx Crosby, Peter King and Jim Gray that he not only won the title, but he also managed to convince Jack Nicklaus to present him with the trophy.
“I won the Club Championship at Palm Beach. Can you believe it? The Club Championship for us is like a major. No strokes or anything. There is always a lot of good players at a good club or a big club. You learn a lot about yourself. You have to be able to handle pressure,” he said.
“I know scratch golfers who don’t even try to play in the Club Championship. One guy is a really good player, better than scratch but he says he can’t play in the Club Championship. He says when I stand over a three foot putt I can’t even see the hole. You know what is great though? Jack Nicklaus is a great, great guy.
“I was substantially older than the other people who played. The one I played at the end was 32 or 31, and he was a +3. A really good player. When Jack heard I won the club championship he said, ‘how old are you?’ I refused to say over the phone but I said about 78. 45 year age difference. And I told the guy I was playing, the fairways have no idea how old the person is as you hit the ball down the middle of the fairway.
“When Jack heard that he said I’d love to come over and hand you the trophy. Very nice, right? He thought it was an achievement.”
Cannot fault Trump’s self belief
Trump can clearly make his way around a golf course. Whatever you think of him, it was impressive to see the way he drove the ball during that video with DeChambeau. So, many players would probably struggle to compete in a match.
However, there will be many who struggle to believe just how incredible a win this is. There have even been books written about how he perhaps does not always play within the rules when he is on the golf course.
It would be fascinating to see what his opponent says about their match. Trump is clearly a very capable golfer. But you can understand why some would have a hard time believing that he has gone and beaten what sounds like a great player.
