Heading into the final round of the Grant Thornton Invitational, it would appear that the team of Nelly Korda and Daniel Berger probably have a little too much to do to win, with the pair nine shots off the lead at Tiburon Golf Club.

There are mitigating factors which explain why the pairing of Nelly Korda and Daniel Berger may have perhaps not hit their straps just yet. Of course, Berger is a late addition to the event, with Tony Finau initially scheduled to play alongside Korda. However, Finau sparked rumours by withdrawing from the event due to injury.

Berger did end his PGA Tour season on a high by finishing in a tie for second at the RSM Classic. But obviously, it was Korda who stole the show in 2024 as she won seven times on the LPGA Tour.

Korda had an amazing start to the year, winning six times in seven starts. And just when there seemed to be a debate over whether she may face competition for the player of the year, she won The ANNIKA after making five consecutive birdies on the back nine on Sunday.

Daniel Berger stunned by Nelly Korda during the Grant Thornton Invitational

So it is no surprise that Berger has been hugely impressed by the world number one. Speaking after their second round, Berger shared how Korda stunned him at one stage during the event.

“Well, she hits her seven iron about as far as I hit my seven iron,” he said.

“There was a couple times where I hit one in there yesterday and I looked in her bag and she was hitting the same club I was hitting and I was like wow. It’s just impressive all around.”

Korda’s stock yardages

Korda is one of the longer hitters on the LPGA Tour, finishing 20th for the season for driving distance. She averaged 269.79 yards off the tee throughout the year.

But what many of the LPGA’s best also do is hit the fairway with frightening regularity. Aaron Rai was top for driving accuracy on the PGA Tour in 2024, hitting the fairway 72.02 percent of the time. Korda meanwhile, is 40th on the LPGA Tour for driving accuracy – at 75.75 percent.

It may therefore, surprise plenty to see just how far Korda actually hits the ball, with Berger amongst those almost taken aback by the distances she was producing.
