Shane Lowry endured a disastrous finish to his week at the Dubai Invitational.
Lowry played really well on the whole in Dubai, but he will have left the golf course on Sunday with a bitter taste in his mouth.
Earlier this week, Lowry said he really enjoyed playing in the Dubai Invitational, but he certainly wouldn’t have been happy with the way he finished off the tournament.
He suffered a real nightmare on his 72nd hole at Dubai Creek Resort.
Who’s THE MOST overrated golfer in the world?
Holding a one-shot lead at the time, the 38-year-old Irishman pulled his second shot from the fairway into the back left bunker.
Lowry then hit his bunker shot into the water and went on to make a double bogey six, as Nacho Elvira finished up at 10-under-par to take the trophy.
Dame Laura Davies reacts to Shane Lowry’s final hole Dubai Invitational meltdown
Sky Sports commentator Dame Laura Davies was in disbelief when Lowry failed to win in Dubai on Sunday.
Just minutes before he made double-bogey on the 18th hole, Davies thought that the Irishman was home and dry.
When speaking on Sky Sports’ broadcast of the Dubai Invitational, Davies was asked to explain what she believes caused Lowry to double bogey the 18th hole on Sunday.
“Well, when I left the compound to come down here, he hit a perfect tee shot, so in my mind I’m thinking, ‘Oh, Shane is going to win’,“ Davies admitted.

“Yeah, he was in a good spot. I don’t know, maybe adrenaline and he’s just blown it.
“He got a big bounce because he pitched it up there pin-high. He pitched it just a bit too far.
“The ideal spot there was 20 foot short to leave yourself that uphill putt.
“And I know he’s made a mess of the bunker shot, but that was so difficult, all downhill all the way to the hole, and we know that is really difficult.
“When he first hit it, I thought it was alright, but it just went on and on and into the water.
“And he racked up a double and he will be angry more than anything.“
Worrying times for Shane Lowry
Lowry will be furious with the silly double bogey that he made on the final hole in Dubai.
The winners of the four majors in 2026 will be…
Let us know who you are backing to triumph in next year's biggest events
As Davies explained, he shouldn’t have messed around with the back fringe in the first place, so it was a seriously big error of judgement from the Irishman.
Lowry now hasn’t won an individual title since the BMW PGA Championship in September 2022.
So we’re now entering the fourth year in a row where Lowry hasn’t won with his own ball, and that will seriously worry him.
He will be desperate to get a win under his belt this season.
However, the more opportunities that Lowry throws away, the more he will begin to question himself.
And that is never a good place for a professional golfer to be in.
