Scottie Scheffler is in a very strong position to win The Open Championship.
However, Dame Laura Davies thinks that Scheffler will be put under pressure by three players in particular at Royal Portrush on Saturday.
Scheffler was delighted with his performance on day two at The Open, and that’s no surprise given just how good he was.
The world number one made eight birdies and a solitary bogey during his second round at Portrush, and he now holds a one-shot lead heading into the weekend.
Scheffler has putted incredibly well during the first two days of The Open, and if he keeps that up, there will be only one winner come Sunday evening.
However, Davies doesn’t think it will be completely smooth sailing for the American at Royal Portrush this weekend.
Laura Davies names three players who will put pressure on Scottie Scheffler at The Open
Scheffler is the red-hot favourite to win The Open at Portrush.
However, there is still a lot of golf left to be played.

And there are plenty of experienced winners tucked in behind the man from Dallas, Texas.
Davies was on punditry duty for Sky Sports in the UK on Saturday morning, and delivered her verdict when asked who she thinks will win The Open.
Tyrrell Hatton, his fellow Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick and Scotland’s best player Robert MacIntyre will all put pressure on the world number one, according to Davies.
She explained: “Well, you’d assume that Scottie Scheffler is going to, as Radar said last night, if the weather stays like we’ve got it this morning, he could get to 20-under, and nobody is touching that. But we know it’s golf, even as good as he is. I see Tyrrell Hatton, Bob MacIntyre and obviously Matt Fitzpatrick putting some pressure on him. Not that he feels pressure the same way as other players. But you can’t give up on it yet just because it’s Scottie Scheffler with a one-shot lead. They are not giving up on anything, if they are playing for second place, make sure you get that second place and you might be in for a nice surprise.“
Scottie Scheffler’s stats after two rounds at The Open
Scheffler has been at his usual brilliant best with his irons this week, and somewhat surprisingly, he has putted exceptionally well.
However, his driver has been slightly off. Here is how his numbers look after two rounds:
| Stats | Scheffler’s ranking |
| Strokes gained off the tee | 93rd |
| Strokes gained approach | 1st |
| Strokes gained around the greens | 99th |
| Strokes gained putting | 2nd |
| Strokes gained total | 1st |
If Scheffler maintains his fine form with his irons and his putter, and tidies up his driving, he will be unbeatable at The Open this weekend.
As Davies said though, there are plenty of top-class players just behind him on the leaderboard who are capable of pushing him all the way.
