Collin Morikawa roared back to form in round two of the FedEx St Jude Championship and he’s admitted to having to make some changes to improve.
Morikawa left the mini tour of Europe in miserable form after failing to make any sort of impact in both Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Now, though, the American looks to be back in some sort of form after firing in a superb round of 65 to move to a tie for second and four back of overnight leader, Tommy Fleetwood.
Morikawa is very much looking to break his own streak of not winning on the TOUR which stretches back to the ZOZO in 2023.
However, in order to find the form needed, he’s needed to make some changes and Morikawa has admitted that a very specific shot has needed eliminating from his game.

Collin Morikawa admits he’s got rid of one shot from his golf game
It’s a big shame we haven’t seen Collin Morikawa win for so long on the PGA Tour and a player so good simply shouldn’t be going this amount of time without a victory.
Nevertheless, golf is a never-ending strive for perfection and it seems Morikawa has very much identified a problem shot in his arsenal of late.
Now, though, it seems Morikawa is reaping the rewards of his hard work after trying to get rid of that shot.
Explaining why his game was so out of sync over in the UK, Morikawa admitted some work has gone in to rectifying his issues.
“It wasn’t good. You get very exposed out there, and you’re up in — not just in Europe but just over the past two months, the game — you can look at my stats all you want. It comes down to being able to hit my iron shots how I want. I hate missing them 30 feet left. I want to be able to take a 7-iron, choke down on it and hit a nice spinny cut 155 yards or 160 yards.
“It wasn’t good. I went back to the drawing board, had to figure it out, had to really look at it from another perspective and say, okay, I look at my swing, looks like this, how do I just get down to the nitty-gritty and say maybe I need to be in this position, maybe I need to look at some setup stuff. You just keep trial-and-error stuff,” Morikawa admitted after round two.
“We found some key points compared to my older swings when I was coming out here as a pro. It’s hard not to try and mimic it exactly, but there’s pieces of my swing that I’ve got to make sure I have”

Collin Morikawa’s round two stats at the FedEx St Jude Championship
It’s safe to say this very much looked like the Collin Morikawa of old and on this form, Tommy Fleetwood will need to be at his best to hold him off.
In terms of his iron play, Morikawa was right on it and he was ranked first in round two in approach to green strokes gained.
He was also top ten in SG around the green, 12th off the tee, and T1 for greens in regulation.
Interestingly, Morikawa was also T1 when it came to scrambling and sand saves.
Put all that together, and you suddenly have a player who is more than capable of getting it done in the very biggest golf tournaments.
