It wasn’t to be for Collin Morikawa at this year’s Tour Championship as he came up just shy of hunting down Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler won out from Morikawa by four shots to finish his season in style and add to the long list of riches and tournaments he’d already collected.

Still, it was closer than many thought in the end as Morikawa and Sahith Theegala at least ensured Scheffler was made to sweat a bit.

However, the lead the world number one already had going into the event, coupled with him maintaining a ridiculously high standard of golf, meant the tournament was his to lose.

For Morikawa, who finished second on 26-under par, it was a brilliant yet equally frustrating finish to the season for the American.

Coincidentally, Morikawa would have won the tournament had Scheffler not had his ten-under par start.

Morikawa went around the four rounds in 262 shots, while Scheffler carded 264 and would have finished third.

And over on Instagram, Morikawa hilariously trolled the format of the event as he posted about losing out at the FedEx.

Taking to the social media platform to post about his loss to Scheffler on the final day, Morikawa posted the caption ‘Signed up for the gross division, forgot to sign up for the net’.

Morikawa’s comments, of course, come in light of the PGA Tour coming under fire for the format they put on for the season closer.

Scheffler started on -10 after being the top man all season while Morikawa started at four under.

What the pros have said about the FedEx Cup format

The playoff format of the FedEx has been one of the top talking points among the players all week.

Shane Lowry was one of those that simply accepts it for what it is but there are others who have had more of a say on the matter.

Coincidentally, Morikawa was one of those to essentially back the format that eventually cost him.

And in another twist, Scottie Scheffler actually labelled the season-ending tournament as silly before going on to win so comfortably.

Clearly, then, there is food for thought for the PGA Tour on this one and it will be interesting to see if they make a change going forward.

For now, though, it looks like we’re sticking with the same format.
