Collin Morikawa has praised one part of Scottie Scheffler’s game as he looks to hunt down the world number one at the Tour Championship.
Morikawa produced the standout round during the second day’s play, carding an eight-under 63 to place himself firmly in contention.
Nevertheless, the 27-year-old will have to produce something pretty special to clinch the Tour Championship and lucrative prize money.
Scheffler currently sits four shots clear of Morikawa after shooting 66 on Friday. And Morikawa, playing alongside Scheffler, was particularly impressed with the world number one’s work off the tee.
Collin Morikawa lauds Scottie Scheffler’s driving at the Tour Championship

Scheffler’s driving has been near-perfect throughout the 2024 season, and Morikawa has praised what he’s witnessed so far during the first 36 holes at East Lake.
“Look, like I said, he’s going to continue to make birdies,” Morikawa explained. “He’s driving it really, really well here, and you’re giving yourself enough wedges to make some scoring opportunities out there.”
“For me, it’s just bringing energy and just kind of staying alive out there. Like I said, I’ve got a game plan that I’ve set out, and I’m really going to stick to that, just knowing that we’ve got two more rounds left of the season.”
Scottie Scheffler on course to land Tour Championship prize
Unless one of the chasing pack produces something out of the ordinary, it’s hard to envisage anyone getting close to Scheffler down the stretch.
And if and when the world number one gets his hands on the FedEx Cup title, he will be fully deserving of the crown.
The considerable pay cheque should go to the standout player, and Scheffler has been precisely that. He’s rarely finished outside the top ten, and an off-week is an infrequent occurrence.
Of course, Xander Schauffele’s double-major winning season has been impressive, but the world number two, despite his form, hasn’t been able to reach Scheffler’s relentless performance levels.
