It wasn’t to be for Collin Morikawa as he lost out on winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in heart breaking fashion to Russell Henley.

Morikawa was leading all the way through Sunday but a dramatic eagle chip in on 16 allowed Henley to go one clear with two to play and the American never relinquished.

Morikawa hasn’t won since 2023 and he’s among a group of big name American players who are struggling to get back to winning ways on the PGA Tour.

And while Morikawa might be playing well in the main and getting close, there is still a worrying theme emerging in his game when it comes to getting over the line.

The worrying form Collin Morikawa is showing after losing out at the Arnold Palmer

Everyone who follows golf knows that Collin Morikawa is a top golfer and his two major wins show he is a world class player.

However, his last major win was in 2021 and with his last TOUR win in 2023, there is a worry for Morikawa right now.

Indeed, Morikawa seems to be struggling to get over the line and the stats show it.

Morikawa led the Hero World Championship back in 2021 by five shots and lost to Viktor Hovland, while in 2023, he was six ahead at The Sentry only to be reeled in by Jon Rahm.

Now, at the Arnold Palmer, Morikawa had a three stroke lead and succumbed to Henley from nowhere, despite being well in control heading into the back nine and with minimal pressure from others.

With The Players next week and The Masters to come, Morikawa will hope to find a way to win before it becomes an almighty mental block in his game.

Collin Morikawa’s PGA Tour form in 2025

Morikawa has now played in four events in 2025 and his game is trending well.

He hasn’t finished outside the top 20 yet, with two 17th places coming at Pebble Beach and then The Genesis, while he finished in second at The Sentry.

His second place at Bay Hill means it’s now three second place finishes in six events after he came runner up to Scottie Scheffler at the TOUR Championship in 2024.

Surely, then, a win is around the corner but with these little trends proving difficult to overcome, it looks like Morikawa is going to have to battle his way to victory.
