Collin Morikawa posted the lowest four rounds at the Tour Championship, but his efforts weren’t enough to land the FedEx Cup title.
Scottie Scheffler, of course, was the man to add $25 million to his 2024 season earnings and end his 2024 on a high.
Morikawa praised Scheffler’s mental ability during the final round in Atlanta, and now the world number four has shared what he must improve to challenge Scheffler more in 2025.

Talking to the media after narrowly missing out in Atlanta, Morikawa claimed he’s got to improve his performance during the latter stages of tournaments.
“I’ve got to start playing better, better final rounds,” Morikawa said. “That’s what it comes down to. It’s not like I had to do anything special in a handful of those rounds. It’s not like — I didn’t have to shoot 63s to win. I was in these final groups.
“I don’t know how many final groups I was in this year, but enough to where I can think of a few easily off the top of my head, and when you can do that, you hope to think of the wins.”
He added: “I’ve got to figure out how to — not sustain the energy but just sustain the golf and figure out how do we shoot a 5-under in a final round where it’s just kind of effortless.”
Collin Morikawa sees the funny side of Scottie Scheffler’s two-shot lead in Atlanta
As mentioned, Morikawa carded the lowest gross score at East Lake and would’ve won the event had Scheffler not been given a starting strokes advantage ahead of the first round.
Thankfully, the two-time major winner saw the funny side of the format and posted a hilarious caption on Instagram.
“Signed up for the gross division, forgot to sign up for the net,” Morikawa wrote.
Morikawa should be pleased with his season-ending efforts. He pushed Scheffler all the way and produced some eye-catching golf in the process.
As the 2025 season rolls around, there’s plenty for Morikawa to be optimistic about.
