Collin Morikawa played well this weekend to record a fourth place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Morikawa is widely regarded as one of the best young players on tour and at 27, already has two major championships to his name.

With the US Open around the corner – a tournament Morikawa hasn’t yet won – the American has been trying to get his game trending in the right direction in the last few weeks.

He’s finished top 25 in his last six tournaments now, including a third at the Masters and a fourth at the PGA Championship before finishing in the same position at Colonial this weekend.

And speaking about his game, Morikawa has admitted he’s taken a step back from caring too much about what his rounds actually looked like on the eye.

Collin Morikawa shares why he’s seeing improvements in his golf game recently

Speaking in his flash interview after his final round at Colonial, Morikawa admitted he’s happy to see his game trending in the right way.

“Just the grind. You know, I’ve talked about it a lot this past month, month and a half of just putting scores together.

“You know, for a long time I think I wasn’t putting scores together and I cared too much about making it look pretty. So yeah, it’s nice. Look, I didn’t have my best still but put together a third/fourth place for the week and it’s coming together so that’s what’s great,” Morikawa said.

Morikawa one of the favourites for Pinehurst

When you look at the players heading into the US Open who have a very realistic chance of winning, Collin Morikawa is right up there.

With his form going in the right direction, coupled with the fact he has won majors before, the mix of ingredients for Morikawa to go to Pinehurst and win is very much there.

Of course, others like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau will all be feeling good about their game as well.

But Morikawa has been going in the right direction for a while now and given his results in the two other majors this year, he’s a solid pick for the US Open.
