Fair play to Chris Gotterup for hanging in there during day three of The Scottish Open on Saturday.

Gotterup posted a round of even-par 70 on day three of The Scottish Open, and he has been rewarded with a final group pairing alongside Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark.

Due to forecasted dense fog in the morning, the tee times for Sunday have been changed, with the leaders set to go out in three-balls rather than two-balls.

McIlroy is very much the fan favourite at the Scottish Open, and he will obviously have the crowd in his corner during the final round at The Renaissance Club.

On the flip-side, Clark will be in the role of the away team, so to speak, just like Gotterup.

So is being paired with McIlroy and Clark a good thing for the 25-year-old or not?

It is never easy to follow up a round of 61 with another impressive showing, but the American did exactly that.

His score of 70 was a fine effort given the strong wind and the fact that the greens really firmed up on Saturday.

Gotterup will be relishing the challenge that lies ahead of him in Scotland on Sunday.

He responded when asked by a reporter after his round how he feels about being paired with McIlroy and Clark for the final round.

Gotterup said: Yeah, I’m happy it’s not a 3.45 tee time again. That’s what you practise for. I’m in a good spot. If you came to me on Tuesday and said that was the case, I would have taken it. I’m excited for tomorrow and yeah, a good day ahead of us.

I mean, I know what I’m capable of. I’ve won before. Obviously different tournament. But I won in college and I’ve won before. So I know what it takes. It’s going to take a good round for sure, and I’m going to go give it my best.

Not many fans in Europe would have even heard of Gotterup before this week.

However, he has proven that he has some serious game.

That said, his results this season simply haven’t done him justice.

Gotterup has clearly been hugely inconsistent this season, so his performance at The Renaissance Club this week has come as a huge surprise.

However, playing alongside McIlroy and Clark on day four of the Scottish Open will be something that Gotterup has never experienced before.

Hopefully he rises to the occasion.
