There is surely no question which group will attract the most attention at the Women’s Scottish Open this week, with Charley Hull set to play alongside Nelly Korda and Lottie Woad at Dundonald Links.

The final major of the year is just around the corner, with Royal Porthcawl Golf Club set to host the AIG Women’s Open for the first time ever later this month.

Of course, many in attendance in South Wales will be cheering on Charley Hull. Hull finished second at the event back in 2023. And thankfully, it seems that she is over the illness which led to her withdrawal from the Evian Championship.

The 29-year-old will be teeing it up at the Women’s Scottish Open on Thursday alongside Nelly Korda and Lottie Woad. Of course, Korda is the superstar name in the field.

It has been a surprisingly quiet year for the American. She has one top 10 in the majors this year, while she sits seventh in the Race to CME Globe standings.

Instead, it is the third member of the group who seems to really be attracting attention right now. Woad is preparing for her first event as a professional after finishing third at the Evian Championship.

The 21-year-old also won the KPMG Women’s Irish Open by six shots earlier this month. And speaking ahead of Thursday’s first round, Hull shared her admiration of the youngster.

“Yeah, it’s really good. Obviously we share the same coach, putting coach, Nick, and he’s always said how good she is and stuff, and it’s just nice to see someone young coming through and that inspires everyone, do you know what I mean, even the older players on tour. I think it’s really cool,” she said.

“What I like about Lottie as well she loves golf so much, and she’s just, like, obsessed with golf, and I love that because I’m the same, and I think she and her dad should be really proud of her.”

“I’ve not really got much advice to give to her because she’s just gone and won an event and she’s gone second or third in a major. Just carry on doing what you’ve got to do, do you know what I mean. Don’t take advice off too many people. Just do you at the end of the day,” she added.

Hull was then informed that Woad had picked her out as the player who inspired her most. And she suggested that the appreciation was mutual.

“That’s pretty cool. That’s probably the player that I most want to watch now,” she responded.

One of Hull’s most impressive performances came at last year’s Solheim Cup. She was given the unenviable task of facing Korda in the top match of the Sunday singles.

Korda had been outstanding at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club all week. But the European’s performance was so impressive that even Korda joked that Hull smoked her.

Korda remains the biggest star in the game right now. And Hull suggested that having her teeing it up this week is a big boost for the tournament itself.

“It’s always great when Nelly is playing in the event. Brings the crowds in and she’s always fun to play with. I like Nelly a lot. Couldn’t think of a more perfect world number one,” she said.

It will be fascinating to see which player gets off to the best start from the marquee group at Dundonald. All three look set to attract an amazing amount of support – and will have their sights set on victory.
