Cameron Young is among the Americans taking on the challenge of the Ryder Cup this month, which takes place at Bethpage Black.

Young really wanted to make the Ryder Cup team this year, which he did via a captain’s pick from Keegan Bradley.

The one-time PGA Tour winner is one of four rookies on the United States Ryder Cup team, but has history at the New York course.

In 2017, Young made history at Bethpage Black as the first amateur to claim the Met PGA N.Y. State Open title.

Born in Scarborough, New York, Young could be paired with Bryson DeChambeau at the Ryder Cup, with the latter representing America’s only LIV Golf player.

Cameron Young shares his verdict on Bethpage Black ahead of the Ryder Cup

With the competition now just over a week away from starting, the former has shared his verdict on the iconic course.

Young told Ryder Cup USA: “Yeah I’ve always just loved it. I think it’s very simple, they don’t hide anything from you, and at the same time it’s very difficult.

“So I just really like the fact that it’s right in front of you, it doesn’t try to trick you, the greens are not crazy.

“It’s just very straightforward, you hit good shots, you have birdie opportunities, you have bad shots, you’ll struggle.”

What form is Cameron Young in ahead of the Ryder Cup?

Young had a season to remember on the PGA Tour, where he claimed his only career win to date at the Wyndham Championship.

And he’s continued to impress since then, with the American arguably among the most in-form Ryder Cup players as the tournament arrives.

After his comfortable victory at Sedgefield Country Club, he finished fifth at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and 11th at the BMW Championship.

Young then secured T4 and T9 finishes at the Tour Championship and Procore Championship respectively.

He did, however, miss a significant seven cuts from his 25 appearances, but again impressed with eight top 10s.

But Bethpage is set to generate an entirely different challenge to what he has faced this season, both given the course itself and the manner of the competition.

Young will no longer be playing for himself in New York, with a real team effort required in order to lift the Ryder Cup trophy.

Moreover, while the Europeans can expect a hostile welcome from the fans, the American players will be under huge pressure to deliver success on home soil.
