If you need to know how to correctly repair your pitch marks, Cameron Smith has just provided a detailed explanation of how to do so.

People who do not repair their pitch marks on the greens, or even those who do not do it correctly, are the bane of golf course superintendents’ lives.

Smith and his fellow elite level pros are under huge pressure to repair their pitch marks perfectly, but the truth of the matter is that amateur golfers should be as well.

The Australian is a hugely respected figure in the game, in spite of his move to LIV Golf in 2022.

Bryson DeChambeau recently described Smith as a ‘scary’ player to compete against.

On his day, he is one of the best players on the planet. So who better to learn from when it comes to helping keep your golf course in tip-top condition than the 2022 Open champion?

Smith has given some key advice to golfers all over the world regarding how to perfectly repair a pitch mark.

When speaking on a video for his Ripper GC LIV Golf team, Smith outlined the key to correctly repairing ball marks.

He said, ‘you don’t have to lift but twist and push’ instead.

That’s sound advice from Smith, but golfers looking to emulate his method should start off by purchasing a pitch mark repair tool that is fit for purpose.

Far too often amateur golfers use auxiliary tools, like tees for example.

If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing properly.

How long it takes for a neglected pitch mark to repair naturally

It is vitally important for golfers of all levels to repair their pitch marks.

If they are not seen to instantly, the healing process can take quite some time.

A pitch mark that is not repaired can take weeks and sometimes months to repair.

However, a correctly repaired pitch mark will heal within a day.

Leaving them unrepaired can also allow weeds to form more quickly and grow through the entry point that the mark in the ground has created.

The best advice I was ever given as a young golfer was to repair my own pitch mark and then repair another one that had been neglected previously.

If everyone who plays golf did that, our greens the world over would be in much better condition.
