The enigmatic Bryson DeChambeau leads LIV Mexico by one stroke from Cam Smith heading into the final day on Sunday.
Whilst some fans have trouble understanding the way that DeChambeau goes about things, what cannot be denied is that he is good for the game of golf, and that shone through loud and clear at LIV Mexico.
Bryson DeChambeau has loved hitting bombs off the tee at LIV Mexico this week, with the 7,800 foot altitude meaning that he can carry his ball 400 yards or more at times.
Meanwhile, Smith has excelled around the greens instead, as per usual.
The 31-year-old isn’t as big a name in the game as DeChambeau is, but he’s just as good as the long-hitting American.

It was recently suggested that the PGA Tour’s treatment of Smith was ‘too much’, after all traces of the Australian’s win in 2022 were removed from the clubhouse at TPC Sawgrass.
The Aussie certainly seems to be enjoying his golf on LIV right now and just like DeChambeau, his switch to the Saudi-backed golf league seems to have freed him up.
Bryson DeChambeau says what is ‘scary’ about Cam Smith ahead of LIV Mexico final day
The two players traded blows on Saturday afternoon at Club de Golf Chapultepec, before DeChambeau got his nose in front on their final hole of the day with a well-crafted birdie.
Day three of LIV Mexico should be some seriously exciting viewing as both looks to get their first win of the season.
DeChambeau spoke to reporters after his second round of five-under 66, and spoke very highly indeed of Smith.
The Australian matched the American’s score on day two of LIV Mexico.
And The Crushers Team Captain opened up on something he genuinely finds scary about The Rippers star:

“Yeah, it’s scary when he gets on the greens. Whenever he gets on the greens, I’m like, well, that’s a one-putt. You just mark him down for a one-putt. It’s pretty awesome to watch him putt. I’m sure there are times where he’s like, holy crap, I wish I could hit the ball that far, too. He hits it plenty far enough, and his iron play and wedge play is great right now. Playing in the final group tomorrow will be a lot of fun, and we’re going to go after it.“
Who isn’t jealous of Smith’s putting? However, the same can be said for DeChambeau’s driving ability.
Cam Smith wishes he could do what Bryson DeChambeau does
After DeChambeau praised Smith to the hilt, the Australian returned the favour only minutes after.
The 2022 Open champion was asked what it was like playing alongside the long-hitting American on day two of LIV Mexico:
“It’s nice playing with him. At times I wish I could drive the ball like him. I often wonder about how much better of a golfer I would be if I could drive the ball like him.
“But I think we play a very similar style of golf. We’re both pretty aggressive, particularly around here. I think there’s a lot of opportunities to lay back, and all of us were hitting driver today and trying to send it down there and give ourselves an opportunity.
“It was cool to watch. He’s obviously a great player in his own right, and he’s going to be tough to beat tomorrow.”
It’s a funny game golf isn’t it. There have rarely been players throughout history who have mastered every single aspect of the game.
In fact, it could be argued that only two can lay claim to doing just that – Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
Just imagine if there was a golfer out there with DeChambeau’s length off the tee and Smith’s ability with a putter.
Now that would be scary.
