Cameron Smith and Brooks Koepka both had disappointing 2025 seasons on the LIV Golf tour.
Smith’s best finish was a T5 in Mexico City, while Koepka only had two top-10 finishes all year.
Therefore, it is hard to argue that either major champion has benefited from leaving the PGA Tour.
A former DP World Tour player has now called out Smith and Koepka for making bad career choices.

Mark Allen claims Cameron Smith and Brooks Koepka made LIV Golf mistake
Mark Allen played 18 events on the DP World Tour (formerly the European Tour) between 1996 and 2003, including the 1999 Open Championship.
He now co-hosts the popular Australian golf podcast, Talk Birdie to Me, alongside former world number 16 Nick O’Hern.
Which LIV Golf team has the strongest lineup?
Allen claimed recently that Smith and Koepka have regressed since joining LIV Golf from the PGA Tour.
“I’ll say it out loud. I think LIV Golf has backfired for Brooks. I think LIV Golf has backfired for Cameron Smith, unfortunately. It’s not like we’re cheering for them to play badly. I used to love watching Brooks,” he said.
“I remember when Rory won five majors really quickly and disappeared. Tiger was kind of always there. We had some majors where some new guys were popping up, and then Brooks came on the scene, and he won his five majors over a three or four-year period.
“It was Rory McIlroy-like; it was Tiger Woods-like, and he was really part of the excitement of a new name coming through that did things his way. It was great to watch, and we desperately want him back contending at majors.”
Min Woo Lee’s comments on Cameron Smith’s struggles
Min Woo Lee is another Australian who is concerned about Cameron Smith’s performances this season.
Having missed the cut at all four major championships in 2025, Smith can no longer be considered a top player.
“Cam was one of the best players in the world before he went to LIV, and I hope he can find a stride,” Lee told the Australian Associated Press.
Cameron Smith’s 2025 major finishes
| Major | Finish |
| US Open | Missed cut |
| The Open | Missed cut |
| Masters Tournament | Missed cut |
| PGA Championship | Missed cut |
“Great golfers, over time, if there are more holes, they’re probably going to come out on top. So hopefully we can see some good golf out of him.
“We have a practice round every time at the Masters and the majors, so I hope for the best for him.”
