For Australian golf, the star names don’t come much bigger than Adam Scott and there’s a wave of disappointment over his decision to withdraw from the upcoming Australian PGA Championship.
Scott enjoyed a super season on the PGA Tour and ended up going to the FedEx Cup, while he also played well enough to get back inside the world’s top 20.
The 44-year-old former Masters winner was expected to make the trip home to Australia for both the Australian PGA and the Australian Open.

However, in a shock move, Scott has decided to take some out of the game, admitting rest is the name of the game for him this year.
“Throughout my career I have always done my best to come back to Australia to compete in at least some of our great local events,” Scott said in a statement.
“This year will be an exception, as I need to spend some quality time with my family and get some rest.”
And now, fellow Aussie Cam Smith has given his thoughts on Scott’s withdrawal.

What Cam Smith has said about Adam Scott not playing in the Australian PGA Championship
Speaking to Fox Sports about Scott’s withdrawal, LIV star Smith conceded that it’s always good to get a rest and that ultimately, Scott’s fine form had probably caught up with him a touch.
“I spoke to Adam a lot throughout the year, and I think his great play towards the end of the year probably led to a few more events than he wanted to play, and to have some time off is always a good thing,” Smith said.
“It’s always nice to have him back down here, but at the same time, he’s earned his rest, and I’m sure he’ll be back down here in the future to support again.”
Adam Scott deserves time off after remarkable 2024
Adam Scott has been around the block and back more times than most on the PGA Tour and if any player deserves to put their feet up a bit, it’s him.
Few expected Scott to be so good in 2024 and his form in the final few months of the season and what he did in the Presidents Cup was seriously impressive.

For Scott, it will all be about getting the right rest in and getting ready for 2025, where he’ll be hoping to climb the rankings again and add another major to his haul.
Certainly, the way his game is trending, there’s no reason why can’t challenge the likes of Scottie Scheffler and co at the very top.
