For many, the Masters Tournament at Augusta National is the pinnacle of the golfing season, and LIV Golf star Cameron Smith is already looking ahead to the first major of 2025.
It’s been some year for the 2022 Open winner in the Saudi-backed league. Smith’s Ripper GC won the Team Championship in Dallas. The Aussie quartet also clinched a memorable victory during the Adelaide event, much to the delight of the partisan support at The Grange.
Smith doesn’t regret his move to LIV and insists it’s one of the best decisions he’s made during his career thus far.
Cameron Smith makes major admission

Despite thriving on LIV in 2024, Smith’s performances during the major championships have flattered to deceive, and it’s something the Aussie wants to change next season.
“I think, particularly the last year or this year, I felt like I played okay in the majors. I did a lot of really good prep, and usually when I do really good prep, really good results come for me, but they didn’t really come for me this year,” Smith said in a recent podcast appearance.
“That was really frustrating, and that’s made me, particularly through this off-season – whereas last off-season, maybe I slacked a little bit – it has been about golf and the Masters. That is our first major of the year.”
Smith added: “When the British Open finishes, which is in July, everyone automatically sees the whole focus of the golfing world, not only the players but what we can do to make ourselves better before the Masters. I feel like I am doing a pretty good job so far. It’s definitely something I need to keep getting better at—preparing in the off-season, making sure I am ready to go—and so far, so good.”
Cam Smith 2024 major championship results
Smith started the 2024 major championship season positively at Augusta National. The Aussie’s two-under finish was impressive in what was one of the hardest Masters Tournaments in recent years.
However, a T63 finish at the PGA Championship would follow at Valhalla, with Smith finishing way out of contention in a tie for 63rd.
| 4.14.2024 | Masters Tournament | T6 | -2 | $695,000.00 |
| 5.19.2024 | PGA Championship | T63 | -3 | $25,202.00 |
| 6.16.2024 | US Open | T32 | +7 | $110,894.00 |
| 7.21.2024 | The Open Championship | CUT | +12 | – |
Smith did well to make the cut at the US Open but never threatened the leaders at Pinehurst No.2. Finally, at The Open Championship, the Aussie missed the cut after finishing 12 over after two rounds at the brutal Royal Troon.
