Bryson DeChambeau got to witness the incredible flop shot produced by Phil Mickelson first-hand during the final round at LIV Virginia on Sunday.
DeChambeau played alongside Mickelson in the third-to-last group on day three at LIV Virginia.
While neither player won the individual competition in the end, both will remember what happened on the 17th hole of the tournament for a very long time.
Mickelson produced a truly incredible flop shot at LIV Virginia on his penultimate hole of the final round.
It seemed like he was dead and buried after his ball finished on the up-slope of the left-hand green-side bunker.

However, this is Mickelson we are talking about. We should have all known better.
The six-time major champion holed out from what seemed like an impossible position, and the shot obviously left a lasting impression on DeChambeau.
Bryson DeChambeau comments on Phil Mickelson’s flop shot
DeChambeau is actually renowned for pulling off miraculous shots himself.
But even he cannot compare to Mickelson.
The 54-year-old is quite simply the best there ever has been at pulling off impossible shots around the greens.
And the flop shot that he holed at LIV Virginia may well be the very best of his career.
DeChambeau told reporters after the final round finished how he noticed Mickelson do something very specific just before he played the incredible shot.

He said, “Yeah, so Phil hit a drive up the right-hand side, blocked by a tree, tried to chip it around it, came out straight out of the rough, and it landed up on that upslope. When I saw it landing, I’m like, my gosh. He’s such a grinder. He works so hard, and I just felt — I actually felt a little bad for him at that point in time because he was playing pretty well and just couldn’t get anything going towards that back half of the round.
“Man, he created some Phil Mickelson magic there. Vintage Phil. To see him get up on the side slope, and he’s just staring at it. You could just see his wheels turning, and then he hit the shot, and I got the perfect angle of it. It literally looked like the top of this roof right here. Just came back down, landed perfectly, and I go, oh, my gosh, he’s going to make it, and it went in the hole and I was like, that’s got to be one of the greatest shots I’ve ever seen in my entire life.“
What Mickelson said is remarkable about DeChambeau
The 54-year-old has huge respect for his fellow countryman.
Earlier this week, the 45-time PGA Tour winner offered high praise for the big-hitting DeChambeau.
Mickelson suggested that DeChambeau has done something remarkable over the past couple of years.
He said, “I think what’s been great about Bryson is I’ve always seen this side of him, this playful fun side, intelligent side, interesting side of him, and since he has really dove into the YouTube space, now everybody gets to see it because he’s able to showcase that and not have who he is be filtered by a middle person. He controls what content he puts out there and what he wants to shoot and so forth. So his personality comes out.
“It’s been remarkable to see the evolution of it and the way the public has responded to him because he’s always been like that. It just hasn’t been able to be noticed, I guess, properly.“
Mickelson is right there, DeChambeau really has established himself as one of the most popular players in the game.
However, it could actually be argued that the 31-year-old from Dallas is still light years away from the man known as ‘Lefty’ when it comes to popularity amongst golf fans.
