Bryson DeChambeau has shared what a lot of people tend to forget about the equipment he uses, as the American sits one round away from his second major title at the US Open.
Bryson DeChambeau has a three shot lead heading into Sunday at Pinehurst, with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon tied for second place right now.
DeChambeau has already made some history, by becoming the first player to open with three under-par rounds at a US Open held at Pinehurst No. 2.
There is absolutely no question that the 30-year-old would be an incredibly popular winner of the event, having done a brilliant job of changing perceptions over the last few years.
Bryson DeChambeau suggests what many forget about his equipment
One of the things which makes DeChambeau so popular is how unique he is, with the 2020 US Open champion known for using a set of irons which are all the same length, as well as a very upright putter and a driver with a long-drive head.
But perhaps it has gone under the radar just how different DeChambeau’s setup actually is, with the LIV Golf star speaking in his press conference about the keys to his success within his bag.
“I am always here to give information. I am an open book. I have always said that. For the most part people are doing their own things, they have their now contracts with their equipment companies. That’s more power to them and whatever they are comfortable with,” he said.

“I am comfortable with what I am doing right now. I have great product in hand. Even the single length irons I have been using graphite golf shafts since 2018. Most people forget that fact. I have been playing graphite iron shafts for a long time now and the putter as well. I have always done things a little different. And I am glad I have a great team around me that give me the right equipment so that under the gun I am as comfortable as I possible can be.
“On the driver side it’s a recently discovered thing last year. I have said it online numerous times and talked to people about it. We will see if it makes an impact. I am not here to decide the future of equipment or the game or golf but I do know what works for me and what will work for a lot of high ball speed players.”
DeChambeau definitely one of the players leaving a legacy
It will be very interesting to see what DeChambeau’s legacy in the future proves to be, as it would be inevitable that some will have taken his lead on some of the clubs they use.
He has not got the prettiest golf swing on the eye, and he certainly looks uncomfortable when he is putting. You would imagine that many more would rather look like Cameron Smith with the flat stick in their hands.
But clearly, DeChambeau has found a way to be very successful. If everything goes to plan for him today, he will soon be a two-time major champion with his best years potentially still ahead of him.
