Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers got the better of Brooks Koepka’s Team Smash in the semi-finals of the LIV Team Championship in Michigan on Saturday.

DeChambeau surprised everyone when he chose not to take on Koepka, and opted to face Talor Gooch instead at LIV Michigan.

Koepka admitted he was surprised by DeChambeau‘s decision, labelling his rival as a ‘crazy cat’.

The two American players have always shared somewhat of a strained relationship.

However, in recent times they have made up and moved on. Koepka even congratulated DeChambeau for the success he’s had with his YouTube content creation.

So it seemed like they had well and truly buried their ill-feelings towards each other, up until the captain of The Crushers reopened old wounds by choosing not to play the Smash skipper of course!

Bryson DeChambeau shares why he chose not to play against Brooks Koepka

DeChambeau addressed the media after he beat Gooch one up in the first match out in Michigan, and Koepka got the better of Anirban Lahiri.

The 31-year-old was asked why he avoided playing against Koepka in the singles.

And his response was as honest as they come.

DeChambeau said: Talor’s playing some good golf, really good golf, and I felt like Baan would be great for Brooks today. Look, I could have gone up against him. Brooks is a great fighter, and I would have loved to have played against him, but I felt like from a matchup perspective Talor was going to be a more difficult force today. He shot 6-under today. I shot 7 and barely scraped by on the last to clip him.

He’s a grinder and a fighter, and I know he’s a battler. Hat’s off to Gooch for his play. It’s tough to play against him. He’s a great wedger, a great putter. I was scared all day for sure.

That’s quite the admission from DeChambeau and his suggestion that he thought Gooch would be a tougher matchup than Koepka will undoubtedly get under the five-time major champion’s skin.

And with the rivalry between the two players seemingly having been reignited, it will be incredibly interesting to watch them compete against each other over the coming years.
