Bryson DeChambeau has provided an update on the hip injury that led to him receiving treatment midway through his third round at the US Open.

Some may be wondering whether injury is the only thing that could stop Bryson DeChambeau winning a second major title at Pinehurst No. 2 this week.

The 30-year-old boasts a three-shot lead over the likes of Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Matthieu Pavon, and DeChambeau is yet to shoot an over-par round all week at the US Open.

There were however, some concerning scenes before the LIV Golf star teed off on the 11th hole on Saturday, with DeChambeau needing to receive treatment from his trainer for a hip issue.

There were a couple of moments earlier in the round where DeChambeau appeared uncomfortable, and he took full advantage of the opportunity to spend five minutes dealing with the problem.

Of course, some will be concerned that the demands of the event may become difficult, particularly if one of his rivals manage to make a charge on Sunday.

But speaking in his press conference after the third round, DeChambeau suggested that he does not see it being a particular issue.

“It was tougher to get through on a couple of shots. It’s okay. I have had it for a long time now. It’s something that has popped up,” he said.

“I have been playing a lot of good golf lately and working on my house, trying to get my house finished, so I haven’t had time to rest like I want to. The two weeks I had off after PGA I was really grinding and focusing on some stuff there. I wasn’t able to rest and consequently that is going to happen. But thankfully I have a great team around me.”

Could LIV format impact DeChambeau’s US Open hopes

It is going to be interesting to see whether DeChambeau playing on LIV has any impact on his final day performance given that he is not fully fit.

Obviously, LIV events are played over 54 holes, and are not as frequent as PGA Tour tournaments, so he does not have as many miles in the tank as some of his rivals.

DeChambeau did thrive at the PGA Championship at Valhalla, finishing second to Xander Schauffele with an amazing performance. And it may be that not playing as regularly sees DeChambeau feels fresher than most.

But if his injury does flare up on Sunday, it may be difficult for DeChambeau to keep pushing in the way he would like to, particularly when the hips are so important to the power that he can generate.
