Bryson DeChambeau has made a request of golf fans based in Houston ahead of LIV’s Houston event this week.

The breakaway tour returns stateside for its first-ever visit to Texas, with the Golf Club of Houston the stage for LIV’s latest stop.

It’s been nearly a month since LIV’s most recent event in Singapore. Brooks Koepka was victorious on the Southernmost Point of Continental Asia and will be looking to build on his recent good form ahead of next week’s U.S. Open.

DeChambeau is also firing on all cylinders after finishing runner-up at the PGA Championship – and the big-hitting American has been speaking to the media ahead of the Houston event.

DeChambeau has never been afraid to boost LIV’s popularity, whether that be through his social media presence or performances on the course.

The American is 100 per cent invested in the product and has urged fans to come and experience LIV’s inaugural Texas tournament.

“I think the first thing I would say is, try and keep an open mind,” DeChambeau said. “Just for one day. Come out here for one day with an open mind and I think you will be a fan for life.”

Martin Kaymer, talking alongside the American, also claimed people need to be more open-minded about LIV events moving forward.

“You can only have an opinion about something you have experienced,” said the German.

“Going back to the PGA Championship, I talked to a lot of people about LIV and asked them if they had watched a shot and been to an event, and some of them said no, but I don’t like it.

“I said I have never watched a cricket game, but I would never say I like it or dislike it because I don’t know. I would encourage people to come out for the day and experience it for themselves. If they like it, great. If they don’t like it, that’s okay too.”

LIV Golf need a successful U.S. event this week

There can be no doubting LIV’s recent successes in Adelaide and Singapore. The Australian event, in particular, was eye-catching, with record-breaking crowds swarming The Grange to get a piece of the action.

LIV’s product feels well-suited to the support Down Under; it’s not about trying to tap into the American audience this week.

With a signature PGA Tour event taking place alongside LIV’s action, it will be intriguing to see just how many people come out to watch the breakaway tour in Houston.

The traditional nature of golf in the U.S. could prove a hard nut to crack for Greg Norman and Co., with many still opposed to the idea of LIV’s presence in the global game.

DeChambeau’s plea for crowds needs to be answered in order for the tour to really grow on American soil.
