Bryson DeChambeau will be very confident of winning his third major title in a couple of weeks as The PGA Championship heads to Quail Hollow.

DeChambeau has struggled to get over the line in recent weeks, after being right in contention to win at LIV Miami, The Masters and LIV Mexico.

The 31-year-old is undoubtedly one of the best golfers on the planet right now – he just needs to get the job done and win a big event in order to silence some of his doubters.

It has been suggested that DeChambeau is being too aggressive during final rounds, but that is his style of play in all fairness.

Let’s not forget that Padraig Harrington said DeChambeau was not aggressive enough on Sunday at The Masters!

He will be desperate to win The PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.

But is his game a good fit for the 7,600 yard layout?

The two-time major champion’s game is built for overpowering golf courses.

He’s the longest hitter in the game and his short game is pretty tidy as well.

It seems like DeChambeau’s game could well be perfectly suited to Quail Hollow.

When speaking on the 5 Clubs podcast, Brendan De Jonge, Taylor Zarzour and Johnson Wagner all assessed DeChambeau’s chances of winning at Quail Hollow in two week’s time:

De Jonge said:

I don’t want to say yes, but I am going to say yes. With a guy who hits the golf ball like Bryson there is always a chance that he could find lightning in a bottle and overpower a golf course in any given week. I don’t think he is going to, but he certainly could.

Whilst Zarzour commented:

You think of where he has won with thick rough in the past. Wingfoot when he won the 2020 US Open, he won at Bay Hill as well with thick rough. The rough is going to be thicker than what we have seen, maybe ever, at Quail Hollow. That suits Bryson well.

Before Wagner highlighted how perfectly suited DeChambeau should be to Quail Hollow:

It does and not only that, with his ability to play out of the rough. But if you look at Quail Hollow as a hole, it really favours a right handed player who hits a right to left shot off the tee. When you look at the key crucial tee shots out there, it certainly favours that. But the rough isn’t going to be four or five inch pitch out rough, it is mown back to the players so it’s going to reward someone who is going to go down and get it. You are going to be able to get it to the greens, it’s just whether you can hole them. But Bryson and Rory are two of the best at playing out of rough like that, it is thick and overpower a golf course in any given week. I don’t think he is going to, but he certainly could.”

Bryson DeChambeau’s record at Quail Hollow

His record at the venue for the upcoming PGA Championship is a real mixed bag.

He has played in four PGA Tour events at Quail Hollow throughout his career, in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021.

The long-hitting two-time major champion missed the cut on his first two visits to the tour stop in North Carolina.

He improved greatly after that though, with fourth and tied-9th placed finishes in 2018 and 2021 respectively.

DeChambeau also played at Quail Hollow in the 2017 PGA Championship, and ended up tied for 33rd after finishing three-over par for the week, 11 shots adrift of the eventual champion – Justin Thomas.

However, the 31-year-old is a different player all together now. He’s much longer off the tee now than he was then and his putting is far superior as well.

It would surprise nobody if DeChambeau ended PGA Championship week victorious.
