Bryson DeChambeau has suggested another golf course to be added to the Open Championship rotation.

DeChambeau struggled to a seven-over-par 78 on day one at Royal Portrush, and his chances of making the cut looked slim to none.

He then bounced back with an excellent 65 in the second round to ensure he remains in the tournament over the weekend.

Speaking after his impressive performance, the LIV Golf superstar named the venue he would like to see host The Open.

Bryson DeChambeau wants Trump Turnberry to host The Open

The Open Championship has been held at the Donald Trump-owned Turnberry golf course four times previously.

However, after the 2021 United States Capitol attack, the R&A decided to remove the venue as part of the Open rotation.

DeChambeau now thinks that it’s time The Open returned to Trump Turnberry, despite never having played there.

“I look at it as a golf course,” said the two-time US Open champion. “It’s one of the best golf courses in the world, and I’d love for it to be a part of the rotation.

“Albeit I haven’t played it, I’ve heard so many great things about it, and anytime you get to play a special historical golf course like that, I think it’s worthy of it for sure.”

DeChambeau then explained that he would expect Trump to keep with the traditions of The Open while making it extra special.

“Oh, yeah, I think he would. He’d still probably respect the R&A and what they’re trying to accomplish.

“I can’t speak on his behalf, but what I can say is knowing him, he’ll do the best job he possibly can, and I know they won’t let him down.”

The final leaderboard from the last Open Championship at Turnberry

The last Open Championship at Turnberry was in 2009, five years before Donald Trump bought the resort.

The tournament was best remembered for Tom Watson’s incredible performance, in which he almost became the oldest major champion ever (59).

Watson just missed out on the Claret Jug to Stewart Cink after losing in a playoff. Cink (-2) beat the three-time Open champion by six shots in the four-hole battle.
