Brooks Koepka wowed by what Talor Gooch did in a practice round at Sentosa

Brooks Koepka has heaped praise on his Smash GC teammate Taylor Gooch ahead of LIV Golf Singapore this week.

Koepka’s team currently sit sixth in the standings and finished 11th in Adelaide last week.

Smash’s Australia outing was their worst finish of 2024 after previously taking the title in Las Vegas and finishing third in Jeddah.

On a personal note, it’s been a slow start to the LIV Golf season for Koepka. Thus far, his opening outing in Mayakoba marks his best finish with his 10th place in Adelaide, also one of his better weeks.

The 33-year-old’s team were present in front of the media ahead of the 54-hole event at Sentosa Golf Club.

When asked about his team’s chances, Koepka highlighted the way Gooch was striking the ball during a practice round on Thursday.

He said [footage via Ten Golf]: “To be quite fair, last year you could be playing good one week then playing bad this week. I don’t think it has any results this week. We played a practice round yesterday, and everyone seemed to be in a good mood and playing well.

“I like where my game is trending. I watched Talor, and the way he struck the ball was beautiful. Hopefully, that carries over into this week.”

Gooch was the standout performer during the 2023 LIV Golf season. The American landed back-to-back victories in Adelaide and Singapore before also winning in Andalucia.

The 32-year-old hasn’t entirely found the winning touch this year but came close in Las Vegas, finishing second.

However, recent events haven’t been as profitable. Gooch finished well out of contention in Hong Kong and Miami and couldn’t repeat his 2023 success in Adelaide.

With Smash GC in need of points this week, Koepka will be hoping for the Gooch to rediscover form on a track which he evidently enjoys.
