If somebody would have told you six months ago that Collin Morikawa would be in danger of missing out on the Ryder Cup team, you would have laughed in their face.
However, Morikawa‘s drastic drop-off in form over the past four or five months has led to a situation where he might not be selected for the US Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black in September.
The 28-year-old is currently sitting in eighth spot in the US Ryder Cup points list.
Morikawa was working incredibly hard on his game at The Open, but he missed the cut at Royal Portrush, after having suffered the same fate a week earlier at The Scottish Open.
It was actually suggested by Rich Beem that Morikawa’s problem at The Open is that he is thinking too much about his golf swing.
Paralysis by analysis is what they call it, and the two-time major champion may well need to go back to basics if he is to rediscover his best form ahead of the Ryder Cup.
Brendon de Jonge makes Collin Morikawa claim ahead of the Ryder Cup
Morikawa is treading on very thin ice right now.

He has shown absolutely no form whatsoever, with players like Ben Griffin, Chris Gotterup, Keegan Bradley and Andrew Novak all having won this season.
And now, he is being tipped to actually miss out on the team altogether at Bethpage Black.
On the 5 Clubs Podcast, De Jonge was asked if Morikawa is in real peril of missing out on a place on the Ryder Cup team.
He said: “Yeah, very much so. A steady decline the second half of the season. Played really poorly overseas at the Scottish and The Open, missed both those cuts by a ways. Morikawa is not playing great. Then you look at the golf game of Morikawa, I understand the iron game is typically his strength.
“Bethpage is also a big golf course, that’s a really big golf course. Is that something that goes against him as well? He’s not the longest player by any means, and he’s not a reliable putter either, can you pick him just on the iron play? Morikawa is going to have to do something throughout the play-offs to get a pick on this team.”
Collin Morikawa’s PGA Tour results in 2025
Since Morikawa’s gut-wrenching second-place finish at The Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, his form has fallen off the face of a cliff.
Here is how his results from 2025 look:
| Results | Morikawa’s totals |
| Events played | 16 |
| Wins | 0 |
| Top-5s | 2 |
| Top-10s | 4 |
| Top-25s | 10 |
| Missed cuts | 3 |
Those numbers are simply not good enough for someone of the 28-year-old’s calibre.
Morikawa needs to sharpen up his game quickly, if he is to feature for the United States at the Ryder Cup in September.
