The Ryder Cup has almost arrived, with all American eyes on Keegan Bradley and which players he will select for Friday’s opener.

There is a dream Ryder Cup opening match at Bethpage Black, but it remains to be seen which players will get the call from their respective captains.

Friday starts with morning foursomes in New York, followed by afternoon four-balls, with the same programme repeated on Saturday.

Sunday singles then conclude the prestigious tournament, where Bradley is under pressure to deliver the Ryder Cup trophy on home soil.

There is “a vibe” among the USA team ahead of the event getting underway, although Brandel Chamblee has branded Bryson DeChambeau a “captain’s nightmare”.

Brandel Chamblee tells Keegan Bradley why he shouldn’t pick Bryson DeChambeau in foursomes

Chamblee has now shared another verdict on the LIV Golf star, having been asked on the Sky Sports Golf Podcast if he’d want to partner DeChambeau in foursomes if he was on the US side.

He replied: “I probably would not put him out in foursomes. Having said that, this golf course [the rough] is only about two inches.

“So I would have to think about that. He is likely to go out with a Cameron Young and a Ben Griffin, I suspect.

“You’re talking about a guy who finished second, fifth and 10th in three of the majors, and last year played beautifully and won one of them.

“In theory it would be hard to leave him out of the foursomes, but you would have to look at your team and think, who are the best iron players.

“Wouldn’t you typically go for the best iron players in this? And that’s not his strength and he hasn’t proven to be easy to pair up with anybody.

“He has lost matches 5&4. He has only won one match when it comes to a team match at the Ryder Cup, so he has been difficult to pair with people.”

Sir Nick Faldo says if he thinks Bryson DeChambeau will play Ryder Cup foursomes

DeChambeau is making his third Ryder Cup appearance for the United States this week, having won once and lost once.

He’s secured 2.5 points from his six matches so far, from which the popular American has a 2-3-1 record.

But he’s 0-2-0 in foursomes, which could lead to Bradley avoiding DeChambeau in that format altogether.

Offering his take on a potential appearance for the LIV ace, Sir Nick Faldo added: “This golf course is actually a lot easier than a US Open set-up, way, way easier.

“I was coming here mentally thinking this is going to be a ball striker’s golf course. Tee to green, foursomes you want your eight guys who are hitting it on a rope.

“You send them out there. And I thought this is a tough golf course, and it’s still tough but it’s not mega tough.

“There is a bit of give if you hit it in the rough. More than likely we might have rain coming in and it will be soft.

“But bottom line in foursomes you want to keep churning out your eight most consistent players. Bryson is not consistent. He is left, right, left, right. And pretty shocking stats with his iron play.

“So more than likely he won’t play but he’s very useful and could cut some corners and cut some holes down to size.”

DeChambeau certainly impressed in the 2025 major season, although he did fail to make the cut at the US Open, where he was the defending champion.

But that came after T5 and T2 finishes at The Masters and the PGA Championship respectively, with a T10 finish then posted at The Open Championship.

He finished third in the LIV Golf individual standings, claiming his only victory in Korea for his first title since last summer’s US Open.

The big-hitter ranked second for driving distance in 2025, 14th for fairways hit and 10th for greens in regulation percentage, while he topped the pile for scrambling.
