Scottie Scheffler heads into The PGA Championship as one of the two favourites to win the tournament.

Scheffler has been in extremely solid form on the PGA Tour this season, and he finally got off the mark with a win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson a couple of weeks ago.

However, 2025 has been dominated by Rory McIlroy so far, and the Northern Irishman and the American could be set for a hugely exciting face-off at Quail Hollow this week.

Former PGA champion Mark Brooks suggested on Monday that Scheffler would beat McIlroy if both players had their ‘A’ games.

Scheffler spent last week at home ahead of The PGA Championship, and that was a masterstroke of a decision from the 28-year-old.

As McIlroy and co battled the wind and rain in Philadelphia at the Truist Championship, Scheffler took it easy with his family back in Dallas.

And now the 14-time PGA Tour winner will have his eyes firmly set on winning the third major championship of his career.

Brandel Chamblee’s Scottie Scheffler PGA Championship prediction stuns Paul McGinley

Chamblee and McGinley often have differing opinions on the game, and that is actually what makes their chats so captivating to listen to.

Whilst they were on a similar page regarding Scheffler, Chamblee did say something that absolutely stunned McGinley.

When speaking during a PGA Championship preview for the Golf Channel, McGinley and Chamblee were asked how they see Scheffler faring this week in North Carolina.

McGinley said, “I think anybody who beats Scottie Scheffler this week will have a real good chance of being the PGA champion. It’s normal service for Scottie. He’s been here early, he came here early. He didn’t play last week, he took a week off, he got here early, he played nine holes yesterday, he’s out there again today. I saw him here this morning. He’ll be ready.

Before Chamblee offered a really strong opinion, Yeah, look, I mean, it took a bizarre, one of the most bizarre incidents I’ve ever heard of, any of us have ever heard of, to topple off the momentum he had going to the PGA last year, it took an equally bizarre, I would say, incident, uh, cutting the ravioli. If he didn’t get run over by a water buffalo this week from his car to the golf shop, I don’t know how they’re going to stop him.

McGinley: “Really? You put him that far ahead?”

Chamblee: “I do, yeah.”

McGinley: “There are so many guys playing well, Brandel. I mean, really? I put him as a slight favourite. I wouldn’t put him as an overwhelming favourite.”

Chamblee: “I put him a little bit more than that.”

McGinley: “The bookies have him just a short way ahead.”

Chamblee: “Just looking at the numbers, looking at the state of his game, you know, first of all, I mean, you just look at the run he’s on right now. You know, there’s a sense, is it the beginning of an era, or is he on a two, three year run? Or could this be a 10, 15 year run? In so many ways, he reminds me of Jack Nicklaus. The tempo of his golf swing, the high hands, the way he releases the club, and his consistency.”

I have to say, I’m taking Chamblee’s side here. Scheffler is slowly warming up towards his peak, and he has finished inside the top-25 in all nine events that he has played this season!

Is Scheffler better than McIlroy when they’re both at their best?

One thing’s for sure, the Texan is far more consistent than the Northern Irishman on the whole.

However, it’s hard to say that McIlroy hasn’t been anything other than consistent in 2025!

Here are their respective results this season:

I personally believe that if both players have their very best stuff, McIlroy would probably win by a narrow margin.

However, if they played against each other 100 times, I believe Scheffler would most likely win 60 of them, due to the fact that he has simply been more consistent than McIlroy over the past few years.

The PGA Championship will be incredibly exciting to watch this week, with both Scheffler and McIlroy looking to make a big statement by winning the second major of the year.

And whoever comes out on top really will cement their dominance in world golf.
