Golf Channel pundit Brandel Chamblee has been discussing Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour return – and he is concerned.

Spieth underwent wrist surgery in August to cure a pain that had been ongoing throughout the 2024 season. The three-time major insists he is now pain-free.

Chamblee, however, is not convinced. Speaking on the Golf Channel on Friday, Chamblee discussed Spieth’s ‘bowed’ wrist position and appeared to suggest it was the root of the 31-year-old’s problems.

The 62-year-old also shared what doctors and former PGA Tour golfer Arron Oberholser had told him about the injury.

Speaking to the Golf Channel, Chamblee said: “I reached out to a doctor friend of mine, and he was talking specifically about the tendon on the ulna side of your hand. He said if it’s stressed enough, it can start popping out of that sheath.

“He said, look, lower back pain that Orthopedics have difficulty trying to solve and that this ulna side wrist pain is the lower-back equivalent. A partner of his, a hand surgeon, said it’s his least favourite thing to see come into the clinic and that it’s ended the career of many a tennis player. This is not a trifling injury.”

Chamblee added: “I talked to Arron Oberholser, who is no stranger to wrist problems, and he recently had the exact same surgery. The exact same doctor Jordan Spieth went to.

“Depending upon who you talk to, this can be a huge issue or an issue that’s resolved, but it’s certainly not a trifling one.”

Jordan Spieth makes PGA Tour return at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am

Unsurprisingly, Spieth has been rusty on his PGA Tour return. The former Masters champ shot 70 at Spyglass Hil on Thursday before battling his way to an up-and-down 72 at Pebble Beach.

Spieth’s second 18 was typical of what the golfing world has come to expect from the three-time major winner, with birdies and bogeys in plentiful supply.

Spieth then carded a seven-over 79 on Saturday, which included a nine on the par-five 18th.

Can Jordan Spieth win on the PGA Tour in 2025?

Before the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Spieth was quite relaxed about his goals for the week.

“I think shortest term is to feel like I get through these three weeks and I feel as good or better than I did when I started as far as physically,” he said during his pre-tournament press conference.

“That’s kind of a not-very-exciting goal, but one that would mean a lot. And then I would love to work myself into contention before the Masters at least once. And then maybe a lofty goal this year would be to make the Ryder Cup team.”

If Spieth can turn into half the player he was back in 2015, there’s every chance he will land his first win in three years this season.
