Billy Horschel responds to critic after The Open and says nobody on the PGA Tour would agree with them

Billy Horschel produced a brilliant four days and came up just short at The Open this weekend but he’s been having to deal with bizarre criticism in the wake of the tournament ending.

Horschel came up just shy to finish on seven under alongside Justin Rose as Xander Schauffele simply produced golf of the highest order to win.

Regardless, it was a welcome return to top form for the popular Horschel, who put himself in contention to win and made it two top tens in the majors in 2024.

However, rather than reading constant plaudits about his performance, Horschel has had to deal with ridiculous criticism from a popular X account.

Unfortunately for Horschel and golf fans in general, the comments came from an’ X account, @ProGolfCritic, that has around 10,000 followers on the platform.

Seemingly continuing a series of digs, the account said the following about Horschel:

“I think he’s fake & inauthentic and outside of owning that, nothing will make me like him.”

Normally, in the world of top professional sport anyway, these sorts of comments go ignored and players simply move on.

However, Horschel – on this occasion anyway – moved to reply and firmly put the user in their place.

The chat continued as the ‘ProGolfCritic’ seemingly invited Horschel to the LIV event at JCB in the UK, before Horschel maintained his class by replying again.

Not that we claim to know the ins and outs of Billy Horschel’s life and how he is off the course, but whenever we have seen him, he looks every bit the classy guy.

It’s so refreshing to see a golfer fight back at some of the frankly ridiculous hate they get at times online.

Horschel has shown on multiple appearances on TV and YouTube that he is a class act and he’s spoken at length about how he helps his community, his wife, and more with his status and earnings.

Horschel has shown his class on this occasion and it’s great to see. At times, it truly baffles the mind as to why people post such insults with no information to back it up.
