The PGA Tour organizers are currently discussing changes to the schedule for the 2027 season and beyond.

New CEO Brian Rolapp has even called upon Tiger Woods to help make the best decisions for all involved.

The latest rumors are that Rolapp is considering a more condensed schedule that would start after the Super Bowl in February.

Eight-time winner Billy Horschel has now explained the change to the PGA Tour that he would welcome.

Billy Horschel wants more time to play outside of the United States

Horschel’s dream scenario would be to have a global tour, where the best players would regularly compete all around the world.

However, he realizes that his desire to travel outside the United States sets him apart from most American golfers.

So, Horschel would support the compromise of a shorter Tour schedule, allowing him more time to play DP World Tour events on other continents.

“I think ideally, in my eyes, I would love to see a global tour work, but I honestly don’t think that will ever materialise, unless you sign players to a contract that requires them to go and play overseas and to support these events, ” he told the Golf Channel Podcast.

Should more American golfers play DP World Tour events?

“I just don’t see Americans, honestly, travelling outside of America. They are very comfortable with being in America, playing American events. The financial rewards of playing in America are evident, so there is no need for them to play globally.

“Unless they see themselves as a global player, unless they have an infatuation with putting their name on trophies and comparing themselves to others before them who travelled globally, and created a legacy and reached the entire world of golf, that will never happen.

“I love travelling, I love playing overseas. I think there is an opportunity, from what I have heard, if we had a smaller schedule, there would be an opportunity to travel around the world a little bit more and play these events. So that is something that entices me, because I am like, ‘Man, this may work out well for me.’

“We may not create a global tour, but if we create a window of the PGA Tour, it opens up a window for me and the guys who like to travel, to go around the world and play some of these events that we have supported before, or some of these events that I would love to have gone and played.”

Billy Horschel names DP World Tour events he would like to play

Horschel has named some DP World Tour events that he would be excited to participate in if the schedule allowed him to.

These include the Nedbank Golf Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club in South Africa, which took place two weeks ago.

Horschel continued: “[I would like to play] The Nedbank. Go and play down there at Leopard Creek and the Alfred Dunhill Links, and go over to Australia to play. I have only played there once in my life.

What city would you like to see host a brand new PGA Tour event?

“There are other parts of the world I want to go and play, and other tournaments I grew up watching on TV.

“Seeing some of these guys play that I looked up to in the game of golf, I want to experience it and play these courses and see if I can add my name to the trophies that already have Hall of Famers, trophy winners, and legends in the game of golf.”

While some American golfers are not interested in traveling abroad, players like Horschel should be encouraged to bring world-class golf to other countries.
