Billy Horschel will not be part of the 2024 Presidents Cup team with the USA and he’s been sharing his thoughts on not being picked.

Horschel had a bit of an up and down year in 2024 but did produce some solid golf at times and got himself into the FedEx top 30.

Unfortunately, he didn’t quite perform at East Lake and Horschel even bit back at some of the online abuse he was getting for being last at one point.

Still, Horschel continued to play on and he will also extend his season in Europe as well, with Horschel admitting he plans on playing the BMW at Wentworth in a few weeks’ time after resting an injury.

Of course, one blow for Horschel has been his lack of selection for the Presidents Cup. Jim Furyk went with others instead, with the likes of out-of-form Max Homa drawing attention.

However, Horschel has had his say on being overlooked and in the main, feels he can have no complaints.

Billy Horschel explains why he’s not surprised at being left out of the Presidents Cup team

Speaking on the Another Dooley Noted Podcast, Horschel was asked if he was surprised at being left off the team by Jim Furyk.

But classy as ever, Horschel suggested that the reality of his play in the last two years meant he was always struggling.

“Not surprised. You know the way the points work is a two year accumulation. I was down the list and my play did go fairly well this year which allowed me to accumulate a lot of points. But at the end of the day I was 16-17th,” Horschel said.

“I knew it was going to be an outside chance. I think if I’d played better the last two events in the BMW and Tour Championship, I think I would have, you know, made a little bit of a stronger case.

“But unfortunately I had a slight injury. I pulled a muscle in my back/ribs early week of BMW so I wasn’t able – I made it work – but it wasn’t great and that hindered me a bit but I still think I’d have needed to do something special to make this Presidents Cup team.”

Horschel was part of the successful USA team back in 2022 and will no doubt be rooting for his teammates this time around.

With eyes firmly on the Ryder Cup in 2025, Horschel will very much hope to be part of the action at Bethpage Black.
