Ben Griffin has a real chance to win the World Wide Technology Championship on Sunday, heading into the final round just two shots adrift of the leader, Garrick Higgo.

Griffin has been one of the surprise packages on the PGA Tour this season, winning two times just four years after he briefly gave up the game to become a mortgage loan officer.

He has posted rounds of 65, 65 and 66 and sits on 20-under par for three rounds at the World Wide Technology Championship.

The 29-year-old’s fine form this season earned him a place on the Ryder Cup team this year, and he was unfortunate to only play two matches at Bethpage Black.

Still, Griffin loved every minute of being part of the Ryder Cup team and it seems like he will have many more chances to represent his country throughout his career.

Griffin is rated very highly by his fellow PGA Tour players, and it’s little wonder why after his 2025 season.

Now the American has a chance to finish off his year in style with a win down in Mexico.

Ben Griffin says he did something inexplicable in the World Wide Technology Pro-Am

The two-time PGA Tour winner is unquestionably one of the most consistent players in world golf now but it seems like he always saves his best stuff for tournament rounds.

Griffin spoke to reporters after his third round 66 at El Cardonal at Diamante on Saturday.

He was asked whether his game was in good shape heading into the tournament and his answer was a surprising one.

Griffin said: The funny thing about me is I never really feel that sharp, especially early in the weeks. I’m like the worst pro-am player. I topped a driver in the pro-am. I kind of show up in tournaments for some reason. I think it’s because I focus in a little bit more and am playing for a little bit more.

Even going back to Napa, I didn’t feel good about my game, and then grinded on Wednesday, just put in a little extra work, and sure enough, I had a 36-hole lead and probably a 54-hole lead there.

Golf is a funny game. You can feel really good with your game and maybe not have good finishes, and you can be a little off but get it done.

My game is fine. It’s always fine. It’s just, I think us pros are hard on ourselves and try to be more perfect than we need to be sometimes. I think that’s what we all try to chase. We all try to chase perfection on the range. Out there on the course, we want to hit the perfect shot at the right time, but in reality, every player has their tendencies, and I think I’m really good at understanding my tendencies, and that’s why I’m able to course manage courses a little bit better than most probably and give myself a lot of good looks out there, and sure enough, I’m doing that this week.

A golfer of Griffin’s calibre topping his driver is unheard of and it just goes to show how much he loses focus when he’s not playing tournament golf.

Ben Griffin on what he has learned about winning on the PGA Tour

Griffin has shown real composure when he has been in the mix to win golf tournaments this season.

Even when Scottie Scheffler got the better of him at The Memorial in June, he more than held his own.

The man from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was asked to share what he has learned about winning on the PGA Tour this season, after his third round in Mexico.

He said: The biggest thing about winning that I’ve learned? You’ve got to be aggressive the entire time. No lead is really safe, especially at a course like this where the 18th hole guys are making eagles or have a chance to.

I know that if I have a two- or three-shot lead, it’s not necessarily safe. I’ve got to stay pretty aggressive. I’ve seen crazy things happen in the past at TOUR events where guys hole out shots or guys make an eagle on the last, and all of a sudden, someone might have thought they had a good chance of winning and then they’re going to a playoff or whatnot.

I’ve got to be extremely aggressive but smart and steady. The wind can pick up out here a little bit, so keeping the ball in front of me as much as possible is important, and yeah, just got to stay aggressive and hopefully shoot a low enough one.

If Griffin continues to work hard, there is no doubt that he will win plenty more PGA Tour tournaments throughout his career and maybe the World Wide Technology Championship will be one of them on Sunday.
